Yes it’s definitely so lovely that they have had that click! And seemly out of nowhere as well lol. I am confident the hierarchy has been established and they are just at peace with each other now, sharing hay, toys and other bits and bobs in the bonding space. They are starting to groom eachother and lay together more, they are still spending…[Read more]

Where’s Bonnie? Is she hiding?

Thank you so much. I feel like that’s probably what it is since he’s totally okay otherwise. Hopefully finishing up the antifungal will help and he will return to normal soon, I am really worried about him.

Hi everyone! I have 4 bunnies.
2 are a bonded pair that have been together for about 2 years. (M Sage, F Bear).
2 are currently attempting to be bonding (M Bodhi, M Salem).
When I first brought the new bunnies home, months ago, it triggered a fight between Sage and Bear and I had to keep them in a smaller pen while they cooled down. Recently,…[Read more]

Oh gosh, yes I am now putting the other post together with this one. 🙁
Since Freckles diagnosis is pretty serious, I would not continue with trying to bond the group. A prerequisite for bonding is that all the rabbits are healthy, and the stress of bonding would not be good for Freckles.
As sad as it is to think about, you could resume working…[Read more]

From what you described I think you are probably right, that it’s a more “simple” case of dysbiosis or excess cecotropes (and your vet sounds very knowledgeable). Some rabbits are really sensitive to pellets, or even to a specific ingredient in pellets. Hay is really the best thing, and some bunnies even end up on a hay-only diet when they have…[Read more]

Sometimes they will just try a different antibiotic without doing a culture. It would definitely be more cost-effective, even if you get to antibiotic #3. Azithromycin is often tried for “stubbon” URIs.
IF a different antibiotic doesn’t work, then I agree with the vet that you may want to consider doing X-rays. Considering her age, she could have…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the reassurance. I’m still feeling pretty defeated – especially because I know I won’t be able to start bonding attempt #3 until at least June – but bunnies seem like they’re feeling better now.
Monkey seemed pretty hesitant when she went in for the mount. Like she wasn’t quite sure she was going to go through with it, and I…[Read more]

At this point I am heavily leaning towards a dysbiosis/overgrowth of bacteria that just needs some more time to work itself out. He is acting awesome today and eating tons. He has had a few normal poops (not cecotropes) that are extra dark, mushy and watery but they are normal shape and size. They also smell quite stinky, so maybe that is the…[Read more]

Oh man, that is so frustrating! But take a deep breath! Fights are often inevitable, despite how hard we try to prevent them. And it does not indicate they are unbondable, most bondings are full of some ups and downs.
Was this all in a neutral space?
Sometimes when you’ve been bonding a long time in one area, things can get “less neutral”. I…[Read more]

Most rabbit pellets have some kind of filler and/or binder. Some things are just worse than others. If you want to avoid soybeans and grains, then I would suggest something like Sherwood. They use safflower and flax seed.

It really is soooo hard to know what to do. In a senior pet, I do think it’s important to consider quality of life, what the chances of success are, and whether the treatment is for us or for them. Sometimes it seems like issues like this open up a cascade of other problems when the bun is a senior. You could always try the less extreme option…[Read more]

The doctor did want to culture it but determined it was more important to start medications at the time than to get the culture. She doesn’t believe we’ll get an accurate sample until she’s been off the antibiotics for a little while.
thank you!!!

Before antibiotics it was thick and white and she was sneezing quite a bit. After antibiotics there have been moments the discharge is clear but right now it’s slightly cloudy and enough to make her fairly sneezy.
Thank you for your help!

I got up one morning and found that my American Chin Clover had chewed a huge hole in my leather couch, burrowed inside, and was sleeping inside.
Wasn’t much I could do after that.
You might consider a dig box, and selectively removing half the toys and rotating them in and out on a weekly basis.
But getting her fixed might likely end a lot of…[Read more]

Thank you! I think we’ll move to our kitchen. It’s next to our living room where the mini’s have free run, but the littles haven’t been in there and the minis don’t seem to care about territory. If they did, I suspect we would’ve noticed when I moved the littles into our bedroom next to them. I’ll use the sheet idea so Rascal can’t see the living…[Read more]

You’re doing fine! All things with bunnies takes time. And treats. So many treats. He sounds like an active, healthy, and happy bunny, so you got that down. Everything else will take time. As far as the grooming and teeth issues, there’s only one cure for that. Take him to the vet. Let THEM be the bad guys, they’re used to it. You get to…[Read more]

I also saw online that megacolon bunnies usually don’t produce cecotropes, which he is producing. He is also a brown lionhead, so I don’t think he matches the genetic profile of a rabbit with megacolon, but I could be wrong. I feel like he wouldn’t be acting so well if it were megacolon. He’s running around, playing, eating, drinking, etc. and eve…[Read more]
