Scabbing around the nose, eyes, mouth, and/or genitals are a classic sign of syphilis. Scabs solely on the face (with the genitals being normal) is an atypical syphilis which does exist — my Wick actually had it.
I recommend you seek assessment and treatment guidance from a rabbit-savvy exotic vet. There is a syphilis titer (blood test) that can…[Read more]

Hugs to you and yours.
Beautiful boys! They were well loved and cared for, the best any critter could get.
I hope someday you’ll be ready for more buns, they’d be lucky to get you!

Hello, I was wondering what I could do to try to reduce my bunny’s gas? She’s always pretty gassy and I find myself having to give her tummy massages and gas drops. List is a list of the only things I feed her:
romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce, parsley, cilantro, and 1st cut Timothy hay.
As treats she gets Oxbow Digestive Biscuits and Nat…[Read more]

Sometimes bunnies simply have episodes of gas pain. They often snap out of it on their own. If they don’t, then you want to try to help relieve them so it doesn’t progress into stasis. Gas can be caused by a lot of things. Sometimes it’s stress, sometimes it’s food that didn’t agree with them, sometimes they ate something they shouldn’t have.

The only treatment is a series of Pen-G shots. They are given daily or every few days for several weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. A vet will be able to determine an appropriate dosage and schedule.

Ok he is feeling better and eating hay. I wonder what caused this little episode. I’m taking him to the vet still to see what occurred bc this has happened twice at night.

The first thing that comes to mind is atypical syphilis.

Yes it is the crust around her nose and mouth. I can’t tell what it is and I was just wondering if anyone knew

The picture is small. What are we looking at? Is it a crust around the nose and mouth?

Thanks and, yes, I assumed they were just different but not necessarily indifferent. They do seem interested in us, just not interested in any physical touch. They will climb on us when we’re still and don’t seem to mind our company from afar at least. These rabbits don’t know how lucky they are. I suspect a lot of people would be disappointed so…[Read more]

Elliot was tryly beautiful 💗
I agree with Dana, this sounds very much like RVHD2. If you have Facebook, there is a myxo and RVHD map of the UK where people can report in confirmed and suspected cases of those diseases. I’m not sure how long the incubation period is, when I look it up it says 3 to 9 days, but I think Ive read up to 2 weeks. This…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for the loss of both of your beautiful bunnies, I have read both of your tributes and it really does sound like you love so much, I have no doubt they both had wonderful lives with you and they lived to a good age.
I am also UK based and as for rhdv unfortunately its nationally widespread here, affecting all areas – probably because…[Read more]

I’m so sorry to hear about this… My heart aches, and to take the time to share your experience, story, and love for your rabbits is an honor for everyone. While no longer with us, they both had a wonderful, caring, and loving owner with them. They are binkying free, with true love under their wings on the other side of the rainbow.

The current new outbreak is in the US, but RHDV has been in the UK for a while.
I’m really sorry, whatever it was. There are certainly other diseases that could be picked up, but the vets should be following good biosecurity to prevent those sorts of things, and the ones that come to mind that cause sudden death are more common in wild rabbits…[Read more]
