Thank you! So it’s basically as simple as one bunny gets referred aggression and the aggression is what causes them to unbond? I always understood unbonding more when it came to separating bunnies (like taking one to the vet), but was so confused why a new bunny would cause something like unbonding. This makes a lot of sense.

Hmm… fussing with stitches can be a sign of discomfort. I’m surprised your vet didn’t send any pain medication home. Sometimes boys can get by with just a long lasting shot since the surgery is much less invasive. But it’s definitely recommended for girls.
How is your bunny now? It’s normal for them to not want to eat right when they get home,…[Read more]

That was my thinking as well since it would be difficult for him to ingest large amounts from excess lotion on my hands/face- I know that it’s dangerous if administered orally to rabbits, but of course that isn’t the case here. I’ll just wash my hands after I apply it to be extra cautious. Thank you!

I think it will be OK. Washing your hands after applying the cream isn’t a bad idea. Don’t let your bunny lick your face. Stuff like that. Honestly though, I doubt trace amounts on your skin are going to pose much danger to your bunny.

Beatrices mum replied to the topic Beginning bonding in the forum BONDING 4 years, 6 months ago
Thank you very much!! Those are some helpful next steps! We’re going away this weekend so I’m hoping we can get some longer bonding sessions in since it’s a neutral space they’ve never been before! Do you have any advice on how I should proceed with the area? Eventually I want them both to be free roam of the entire apartment but I know Beatric…[Read more]

Hi everyone! This is kind of a random question, but I was prescribed a Clindamycin topical lotion by my dermatologist to treat some inflammatory acne on my face. She recommended that I apply a layer to my face morning and night for a few months. I know that rabbits CANNOT have Clindamycin as it can lead to a buildup of toxins in their GI tract. My…[Read more]

I also have a pretty destructive bun (free roam in my room & living room), so I’m interested to read some new ideas here. In case it helps, here are some things that have worked for us:
- getting her to forage for her pellets keeps her occupied for at least an hour in the morning. I hide them in her hay mat (life saver for me), in her toys, in…

That sounds like a wonderful start!
When something goes well, I like to repeat it a couple times before making any big changes. So you could do a couple more 30 min sessions, and then if those go well bump up to an hour, then may 2 hours, etc. If you are busy on certain days and can’t do a long session, that’s OK, a short session is better than…[Read more]

My experience is that if you were going to have an issue, it would have happened already! Usually you see a bunch of referred aggression that gets out of hand, and causes a fight bad enough to break the bond. It’s hard to say what actually causes this in some pairs vs others, but my sense is that whether the bond is repaired depends mostly on how…[Read more]

Ya I have him in his elevated cage in the night and during the day I bring him out to the pen in a different area of the yard with grass. The pen is where he escapes from. Sorry I didn’t make that clear. But he has been eating and pooping and running fine so far! Thank you!
