We thought it was a sign of bad things. But after doing research we found out that colors aren’t bad. 😅👍

I have 2 males one is 1 year 10 months (English Angora) the other 2 years 4 months (Lionhead). They were neutered on October 10th 2020 and November 19th 2020. I started bonding them  on December 24th 2020 using the 24/7 bonding method.
    I have a few questions.
    1. If I have two males that unbond after one of them gets sheared, is it that they w…

Bam replied to the topic How much hay?!? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 6 months ago

As you and Mmmm says, when they say that it’s about the size of the hay pile, not the weight. It’s a very rough estimate, of course, since hay varies in fluffiness. I don’t think a bun could eat 2-3 times their own weight in hay every day, the day just doesn’t have enough hours. It would interfere with napping. And just imagine the humungous…[Read more]

Tear shaped just means a slight gut slowdown, strung together often means theres a there’s lots of hair in the poop. It’s great that there is poop. Her poop can look weird for up to 2 weeks post spay, because the gut slows under anesthesia and because she hasn’t been eating like she normally does.

A warm water bottle as Dana suggest could be very…[Read more]

You can expect to see weirdly shaped poop for a while now because she hasnt been eating much. It’s good that she’s drinking and eating some things.

my rabbit was spayed yesterday and at first her poop was small, soft, and a little runny, now since around 4pm she isnt pooping very much, she has pooped about 15-20 pieces since then. it’s 3am now. her poop is very small, it’s about half the size of her normal poop (some were even smaller when it started but it seems to have gotten a little…[Read more]

i was wrong about her poop, it’s tear shaped, not stuck together. not sure if that means anything or not.

i’ve been feeding her the mashed pellets every 2 hours, she’ll eat a few pieces of hay if i hand them to her, but not much. she did eat a few bigger pieces of lettuce on her own but it seems like she starts to feel better and then she doesnt feel good again and it just goes back and forth.

her poops are now very very small, hard and dry. some are…[Read more]

At the minimum, it’s reported a rabbit should have at least 3oz, but this is an absolute bare minimum that should be maximized as much as possible. You can read more about its importance, assessing quality, etc. here: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Hay

Thanks @DanaNM! I will scrap my idea of using a barrier then. I am a fun mix of terrified and excited 😀

I don’t have leather gloves so oven mitts it will be. I just chatted with one of the shelter volunteers and the little girl sounds perfect. Turns out the trio was her and her parents and Mom was over it. Her personality sounds a lot like…[Read more]

Aww I’m sorry you’re having a rocky start. I’m sure she will forgive you!

I would just go back to the bonding basics with her. Minimize handling, and spend lots of time with her. Get her area and your room set up so she can come and go from her pen without handling, and block of trouble areas that could cause issues. Having a routine will help.…[Read more]

A trick I’ve seen to deal with this is to get two litter pans that are identical Drill a couple holes in the side of one, and use a cable tie to anchor it to the pen wall in the corner you want it in. Then put the other litter pan inside and set it up as you normally would.

I also recently started using dish bussing trays as litter pans. They are…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Stopped eating pellets and greens, but is still eating hay? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 6 months ago

I’m glad she’s eating a bit better! I just wanted to mention that some bunnies will go off their pellets first when they start to go into stasis, so it could be something else going on besides a dental issue.

If she isn’t eating as much as normal, I would syringe feed her (either pellet mash or critical care).

hmmm, could it have been some mucous from her poop? sometimes after a period of not eating or some GI irritation buns will pass some mucous.

It’s important that you keep her eating, so keep offering her anything she will eat from you. Pellet mash would be good. It’s good that she’s pooped, even though they aren’t normal looking. It’s also good that she’s eaten a little on her own!

You can also make sure her area is calm, warm, and quiet. her space should be restricted, and she would…[Read more]

Oooh so exciting! Can’t wait to see pictures of all the eligible suitors!

If all the dates are similarly neutral, I would just pick the rabbit that YOU like the best. 🙂 Speed dating is really great for ruling out bad matches, so as long as it doesn’t go horribly it has a great shot of working out.

As for space, I would set up an x-pen either on…[Read more]

I agree that 1:1 time could be helpful.

It’s really hard to say how Scout will be, it may be helpful to do a short session and just see where they’re at. Behavior in neutral territory can be really different from behavior at home. I think the bonding area will be important, especially for longer sessions. I would try to find an area that is…[Read more]
