Both of them have been individually in the living room (Dorian still basically freeroam, other than when she gets her turn and I have been slowly upping the time. Miu runs around like a crazy little bun, chinning some stuff, just generally exploring. Not too unlike Dorian when he first came home with us, though maybe a little more hyper. Figure…[Read more]

That sounds like a great plan! Alternating sharing the exercise space is great pre-bonding. 🙂

You’d be surprised. Sometimes the smaller rabbit is the aggressor. LOL
I agree with Wick. Breed and size really don’t matter when it comes to bonding.

My get gave me a feeding-syring with an about inch-long piece of IV-tube (plastic tube that’s used for giving IV fluids) fitted on the tip. They save used IV-tubes for this purpose. It’s flexible and very good for inserting into the buns mouth, in the gap between the premolars and incisors. Maybe your vet has sth like that they could give you? It…[Read more]

Breed and size do not really matter when it comes to bonding compatibility — there are absolutely instances of rabbits of different sizes/breeds bonding successfully and also examples where it is unsuccessful (but it’s not likely that their difference in size/breed is what the bond’s success was contingent on).
As a bonder, you always want to…[Read more]

Peaceful would sound perfect!
We will all try and be patient and take our time! I can up the prebonding a bit in the meantime. The living room is very much where Dorian hangs out during the day letting her have playtime there will help with scent sharing.

I would keep a careful eye on diet/poop. My bunny (who died 3 weeks ago) was the same–showed no outward signs of being in stasis and then, she collapsed and it was too late. I suspect it was stasis because she had it twice before. This time, she was eating but less than usual–just like yours. She was also moving and not sitting hunched up in…[Read more]

The female partners of our bonded bunnies passed away 3 weeks ago. We have been asking shelters for a bunny but most of them have males and different breeds. Our buck is a Rex and these rabbits are usually big. He weighs 6-7 lbs. A shelter just called and offered a recently widowed rabbit but she is a lop (don’t know which one).
Would it be…[Read more]

Sorry for not responding to this right away, I’ve been thinking a lot about this!
I don’t really have a solution, but the short reply is that yes I think this is common, and I experience it a lot! Bunnies are just so different from most other pets, that we have to be vigilant and a little bit anxious in order to be good owners! Ellie had a…[Read more]

Aww, poor Dorian! Sometimes bunnies get spooked by things and it’s really hard to know why. He could be slightly more on edge just because of all the changes.
As far as how long to wait, I would wait till she’s been home at least a week. That’s kind of my rule of thumb for minimum settling in times. Even though they seem to be really excited to…[Read more]

If you’ve been given some syringes for the medications, you should be able to use those. I usually fill a few at a time (or have a helper refill them for me as I go)

Hmm, so that tropical carnival rabbit mix does not look like a healthy pellet. Typically the types that look like granola or museli tend to be too high in fat, protein, and starch, and can encourage selective eating. They basically include a lot of junk food, that the rabbit will fill up on and then not eat enough hay. How big of a pellet ration…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Dose this position look like he's in pain? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 5 months ago
If he was holding that position for a long time, then maybe. Squinting can be a sign. But if it was a just a brief moment, then prob not. Sometimes my buns will look like that when they are sleepy but about to groom, or about to eat a cecal.

What dose meloxidyl is she on? Pain relief is very important for rabbits. Meloxicam should be combined with a stomach-protective drug, most commonly famotidine (pepcid). Sucralfate is another option. Pepcid comes as a pill, so you’ll need to dissolve it in water and dose it with a syringe.

Do the treat test perhaps? If he isn’t interested in the treat or just sniffs it briefly without taking it, it’s a pretty reliable indication of discomfort/pain.
