Bunny Bride replied to the topic Unflavored pedialyte for gi stasis? in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 4 months ago

Thanks for the advice, I was able to successfully avoid an er trip.  I did not give the pedialyte and continued with greens, he seems to have recovered. I am still going to follow up with a full workup vet visit to make sure nothing else is going on. I am concerned the stasis may be a recurring theme since he had issues a few weeks ago as…[Read more]

I have done overly dramatic squeal of pain… it seemed to work. I have noticed the nips now are a lot more gentle…. though there’s some relearning when I warmer weather means bare ankles.

Good luck Ellie!! In retrospect my bonding was easy, but certainly didn’t feel like it during the process, so you got this!!! It will be so worth it once it’s over!

Dorian has spring fever, he actually tried to mount Miu… he is not a mounter (neither of them did it during bonding so I was a little surprised) and she was a little like nope!…[Read more]

As Wick says, your bun could lose some of his good litterbox gabits over time. It’d be a good idea to get him neutered. Also, if he chooses an additional toilet spot, you can place an additional litterbox in that spot. They do like to choose their spot themselves.

My Yohio (the bun I wrote about in my first post) had two litterboxes once he was…[Read more]

It’s great and is also subject to change as hormones may kick in and as he becomes more comfortable in the bigger space.

I too have a rabbit who was confined to a small area for a while in her past home and she also is very good with the litterbox. Restriction is a part of litterbox training (though not to the high degree that we see in…[Read more]

I had a bun that littertrained himself instantly. He was 5-6 months old ca. He being quartanteened for 2 weeks in a big outdoors hutch/run. I noticed he peed and pooped in one corner of the run, so I put a litterbox there and put some of his pee and poop in it. He kept using the litterbox when I moved him inside.

One annoying thing he did though,…[Read more]

When I first got MaxMax now

I am new to this rabbit forum and this is my first post. As such I would like to introduce my rabbit. My rabbit is a flemish mix (I forgot the other breed he is as well). I got Max from a breeder around July 2021, making him around 12 months. We got him from a local breeder who was super sweet and bred her last…[Read more]

Hi there, thank you for the background!

I also have a couple questions. It sounds like things have progressed very quickly? Am I correct in that you’ve only had her home for 6 days?

People vary in their opinions on this, but I really like to allow the new rabbit time to settle in to the new home before starting sessions (usually a week is good…[Read more]

I’ll just add you can also give unlimited timothy hay at this point, so offer both timothy and alfalfa hay 24/7.

100% agree with others, at this point the best course of action is to “play hard to get” and let her feel safe in the space. One of my buns, Bonnie, had become super “cage aggressive” in the shelter environment from being handled daily. We brought her home and let her settle into her pen and didn’t mess with her or her “stuff” at all. We would put…[Read more]

Dandelion leaves are really nutritious and good for bunny tummies! I would say if she’s eating the leaves, you can offer up to the amount you’d normally feed in a salad. I’m leaning towards the same answer for the flowers, but I don’t honestly know the full nutritional content of the flowers… As a more “natural feed”, weeds are more nutritious…[Read more]

While there is currently no vaccine for RHDV2 in Australia, and we only have access to the Cylap vaccine, I just read this interesting letter that was posted on a Facebook group from one of the Ministers. While it is clearly early days (and the Australian Government is really dragging their feet on this one) it does at least show some promise,…[Read more]

Remember that hormones are invisible, so how and when they will impact an intact rabbit is going to change moment-to-moment and be something an owner cannot predict. Also, an intact rabbit is going to react to everything with hormones in the picture, so how she reacts to stress and a big environmental change (stemming from hormone-mediated…[Read more]
