Some pooping is better than no pooping! Stasis recovery can be horribly slow, so hopefully he keeps improving from here!

I was going to say I use the big “by weight syringe” to draw from the bottle, then the small one mL to draw from that, but you came to the same conclusion!

Thanks everyone! It helps to have a plan, especially since 1/2 hour is still a ways away.

So sorry @Sonn. I hope Tater makes big improvements soon, I am sure having Spud with him is helping him a bunch. It sounds like he is in good hands at the vet too. Please keep us uptodate!

Yes, something like that. I’ll admit the first thought I had when I opened the antibiotics was that it smelled exactly like my tonsillitis medication when I was a kid. Flashbacks.
I rang the vet clinic and asked about dosage, unfortunately the person on the phone was unhelpful and just said to get a 1ml syringe from a vet clinic. That would be…[Read more]

This is most likely a URI. You should take your bunny to a vet so you can get some antibiotics to treat it. Don’t assume it is allergies. Rabbits can technically have allergies, but it isn’t a common thing. Much more common is a URI. Your bunny is 8, his immune system may have weakened at some point. Perhaps during a bit of stress. This allows…[Read more]

Weird! So it’s like tonsillitis or something? I agree, that would explain the pain reaction when swallowing.

Yes, oaten hay is perfectly fine to give in large amounts if you want, it’s the primary hay I feed since it’s usually the best quality and most readily available here in Australia.
Fresh grass can actually be a good substitute for hay if she is being picky. I mean it’s basically the same thing just not dried yet. For this reason a handful of…[Read more]

The treatment involves me wrestling with Apollo while trying to lift up his cheek so that my husband can insert the syringe to give him his medications, lol. In all seriousness though, first doses last night did not go well. He gets so stressed by handling that’s anything more than picking him up and putting him down. Even in the bunny burrito he…[Read more]

They’ve had me come in twice a day to syringe feed him. He’s not really a people bunny except for me so they are trying to minimize his stress as much as possible. But like you said I am rarely able to get the entire amount in him while the vet is able to get it in him no problem.
I just left and he’s hopping around a bit but still hunched over.…[Read more]

I’m in Santa Rosa. Is rehoming permanent or cost money? Do rabbit homes offer better housing than what they have here? One of the bunnies is my girlfriends emotional support animal and it would be a lot to lose them.

There is no shame in rehoming as long as you are sure to find a good home, but personally I think I would reach out to a rescue about having them potentially help out before you go that far. What part of CA are you in? I may be able to help connect you with a rescue org.

is he molting?
When this happens I try to increase hay consumption and hydration. If that doesn’t work, he could be having some dental pain that’s causing some eating selectivity, so it would be good to have him checked by a vet. You can also try offering some critical care or pellet mash on a spoon or a plate and see if he’ll eat it readily.

Hi guys!
Wondered if anyone had some advice –
for 2-3 days my bunny has been producing only small droppings and eating a little less than usual (happy to eat treats / leafs etc but not so much hay and pellets).
he seems very happy otherwise loads of binkies (more than usual!) flopping left right and centre, jumping on the sofa/bed for fuss,…[Read more] -

We can get the vaccine, have a smaller hut in the cage with a frozen water bottle and a cloth for the heat. It’ll be for 4 months where we’d be feeding and cleaning their cage regularly, but very rarely exercising (once every 3-4 days). Also the cage is elevated so harder to notice and see for predators.
After we move into a rented studio apa…[Read more]
