Weird! So it’s like tonsillitis or something? I agree, that would explain the pain reaction when swallowing.

Yes, oaten hay is perfectly fine to give in large amounts if you want, it’s the primary hay I feed since it’s usually the best quality and most readily available here in Australia.
Fresh grass can actually be a good substitute for hay if she is being picky. I mean it’s basically the same thing just not dried yet. For this reason a handful of…[Read more]

The treatment involves me wrestling with Apollo while trying to lift up his cheek so that my husband can insert the syringe to give him his medications, lol. In all seriousness though, first doses last night did not go well. He gets so stressed by handling that’s anything more than picking him up and putting him down. Even in the bunny burrito he…[Read more]

They’ve had me come in twice a day to syringe feed him. He’s not really a people bunny except for me so they are trying to minimize his stress as much as possible. But like you said I am rarely able to get the entire amount in him while the vet is able to get it in him no problem.
I just left and he’s hopping around a bit but still hunched over.…[Read more]

I’m in Santa Rosa. Is rehoming permanent or cost money? Do rabbit homes offer better housing than what they have here? One of the bunnies is my girlfriends emotional support animal and it would be a lot to lose them.

There is no shame in rehoming as long as you are sure to find a good home, but personally I think I would reach out to a rescue about having them potentially help out before you go that far. What part of CA are you in? I may be able to help connect you with a rescue org.

is he molting?
When this happens I try to increase hay consumption and hydration. If that doesn’t work, he could be having some dental pain that’s causing some eating selectivity, so it would be good to have him checked by a vet. You can also try offering some critical care or pellet mash on a spoon or a plate and see if he’ll eat it readily.

Hi guys!
Wondered if anyone had some advice –
for 2-3 days my bunny has been producing only small droppings and eating a little less than usual (happy to eat treats / leafs etc but not so much hay and pellets).
he seems very happy otherwise loads of binkies (more than usual!) flopping left right and centre, jumping on the sofa/bed for fuss,…[Read more] -

We can get the vaccine, have a smaller hut in the cage with a frozen water bottle and a cloth for the heat. It’ll be for 4 months where we’d be feeding and cleaning their cage regularly, but very rarely exercising (once every 3-4 days). Also the cage is elevated so harder to notice and see for predators.
After we move into a rented studio apa…[Read more]

So, even large cages are too small for a bun to spend all of its time in. Do you give your rabbits exercise time in a larger area? I think that exercise time in a bunny proofed room for several hours per day is even more important than the size of the cage. Rabbits need a large area to really get up to full speed a run, but they don’t need 24/7…[Read more]

Aww I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m very glad you took Spud in to keep him company, hopefully that will really help his recovery. Eating basil is wonderful. <3
I know a lot of vets like to keep a stasis bun until they really see eating and pooping just because many people have a hard time getting enough CC into the bun.

You can give oat hay liberally, but I like to give it in small portions so they don’t just dig through and find all the seeds.
Plantain is pretty easy to ID! the Genus name is Plantago, all the dif species with this genus are safe to feed. They have a very specific vein pattern on the leaves which makes them easy to recognize and hard to confuse…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Sneezing and Wheezing, should I be worried? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 4 months ago
Wheezing and having trouble breathing IS a life threatening symptom. You should absolutely take him to the vet.
He likely has a respiratory infection that can be treated with antibiotics. Allergies should only be assumed when all possible infections have been ruled out (usually through a culture and multiple antibiotics).

It’s not recommended to house rabbits and guinea pigs together due to Bordatella risk (a bacteria that guinea pigs can carry).
So you should set up separate areas for them. It’s OK if they are in the same room, but stacking them on top of each other would be risky.
I have my pairs in Cube grid pens that are 3 cubes wide, 5 long, and 3 tall (one…[Read more]

Poor baby 🙁 Thank you for rescuing her!
Keep a close eye on her eating and pooping, baby rabbits are very fragile, and especially when you don’t know their history. She should be given unlimited timothy and alfalfa hay for now, and unlimited amounts of a young rabbit pellet. No veggies, fruits, or treats until she is at least 4 months old. I…[Read more]

I ordered 20 more cubes of those metal grids which if I did my math right thats 69 of them and the Guinea pigs cage right now is 5 ft x 2 ft im wondering if I could build ontop of that for the bunny and if she gets bigger and needs more support for the cage I can switch them so the pigs are on top?
