It does sound like she probably has a dental issue, so I would do the follow up appointment with the sedation. They do very light sedation for dental exams, so it’s very quick and safe.
Rabbits have 24 molars in that tiny mouth, and a spur on the back one can cause enough pain to cause a bun to stop eating.
Often the only symptom of a dental…[Read more]

A few days my rabbit started to struggle to eat – it was very sudden as she was eating her dinner the day fore bine fine but struggled to chew her breakfast pellets. Her overall demeanour was pretty normal, alert and playful as usual. But whenever she tried to eat pellets or hay – she would take ages, slowly shake her head from one side to the…[Read more]

Was Tess spayed before or after the false pregnancy?? Or not at all?
If not, that changes all of the advice I gave in your bonding thread! I’ve never heard of a spayed bun going through a false pregnancy, so I would talk to your vet a bit more and see if you can find the records of her spay.
Having another bun in the house can definitely upset…[Read more]

Excellent! I hope Luci finds a good match! Keep in mind she may not behave normally due to the drive. Letting her chill out in the carrier for ~ 30 min before the first date should help a bit too. In speed dates, I usually am just looking to make sure they don’t HATE each other.
If in doubt, pick the bun that YOU like the most. It’s going to be…[Read more]

Nice to see you back! And congrats on the new bun!
So if I read this correctly, Gideon is getting a long with both girls, and is still fully bonded to Tess, who he was bonded with before? And Penelope and Tess are not quite there yet? Sounds familiar! haha :p
You have two options for how to proceed. You could work with all three together (and…[Read more]

Hi all! It’s been a heck of a long time!!
SO I’ve recently adopted a 4 month old-ish conti giant girl, I’ve already had multiple trips to the vets with her as I suspect she was rather neglected from birth but at her last appointment I was told she’s losing weight and has gone from 2.2kg to 1.8kg. She practically inhales all her pellets and eats…[Read more]

Thank you for all the tips!
Unfortunately our bun went into stasis on Monday. It happened out of nowhere. We tried everything but had to take her to an emergency vet. She was give fluids along with medication and we were sent home with her. The vet said it was caused by her ingesting a lot of hair due to shedding. We were given a couple of hours…[Read more]

Hi there! It’s pretty normal for there to be tension when buns meet near their main areas, even when through a barrier. (Imagine a person you maybe passed on the street once just showing up in your house, you might be upset too! ).
Just so I have a better sense of the timeline and their set up, could you fill out the “bonding template”? There’s a…[Read more]

I don’t really understand the first sentence ” Many vets say it cant work because rabbits can burp. ”
Is it only used with gas? Because when my rabbit had problems, i saw mine pushing her stomach to floor feeling uncomfortable. I gave simethicone and it was all good after three doses.

Many vets say it cant work because rabbits can burp. They can however fart. In my experience, simethicone often makes a difference.
It’s not taken up by the body, it stays in the GI canal, then gets pooped out. It’s considered harmless in normal amounts (i e if you give a rabbit a ridiculous amount of anything, anything would be harmful). Both…[Read more]

Hello!
I have a spayed girl named Tess who’s around 10 or 11 months old now. I got her 2 and a half months ago. About three weeks ago, she had what appeared to be a false pregnancy, and since then her relationship with the boy she was previously bonded to (Gideon) has been a bit upset. She was extremely shy and submissive previously. She would…[Read more]

Looks like I’ll be reopening this topic, and thank you for your previous advice! It looks like I will be keeping my friend’s bun (Penelope) along with my two (Gideon & Tess). Gideon is a very calm and patient bun, and since my last update, he’s bonded with both girls. He’s absolutely in love with Penelope, and often likes to sit with his forehead…[Read more]

First question – are they both neutered? I have been told that while bonding bunnies of the same gender is possible, it’s more difficult than the M/F pairings. I am having the same issue with my spayed females.

I’ve read some things now that seem to suggest that simethicone doesn’t really do much in rabbits. In addition, simethicone is for gas problems, not fur block. Basically I don’t think it will help, but pretty sure there is no harm in administering if you wanted to.
I’ve found daily brushing to be the best preventative when it comes to problems…[Read more]

Dana,
I reached back out the the rescue yesterday and they said I CAN bring Luci in for a speed dating session. All their males are neutered and I requested 5 to meet with that are kind and tolerant and good with other rabbits. We are scheduled for next Sunday. I will keep you updated, thanks again!
