It’s wild that mother rabbits can do that. I would imagine this happens with feral rabbits and maybe with domesticated in bad conditions? If only he could tell me what happened himself!
And thanks to everyone who responded!!! I’ll update after we have our well bunny visit 🙂

Rough handling by children could be it. It is interesting because the woman who found him had kids and dogs, but he was always this way so it would have happened before then.
He is also remarkably calm around kids. My 4 year old nephew visited and got his noisy train set out. I was expecting CB to go hide but he was calm and curious, sniffed…[Read more]

Thank you, we think he is very handsome too!
I’ve only had him for 3 weeks and I called the exotic vets around me and they all are booked about 2 months out for the first visit. So he is going to the vet in about a month, but it is so hard to wait! I want to make sure he is doing okay.

Katie started the topic Why does my bunny lick me but not let me pet her? in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago
Hey guys! I adopted my bunny around a year ago. She wasn’t very receptive to people petting her, which I totally understand. As she has gotten used to us, she lets people pet her now. Only my mom and dad can but not me. She loves giving me kisses but as soon as I try petting her, she runs away. I don’t know if it’s something I’m doing but I’m con…[Read more]

DanaNM started the topic Carpenter ants and fipronil use outside?? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago
So, unfortunately we have some carpenter ants coming through the wall, really close to Cooper and Bonnie’s pen. I talked to the pest control people (who are the most eco-friendly ones in town), and they said the most effective thing will be to use fipronil around the foundation of the house outside. UGHHHHH
I know fipronil is super toxic to…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic chewing on plastic litter box in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago
My bun went through a phase of this!
Temporarily I clamped pieces of cardboard to the edge using really heavy duty alligator clamps from the hardware store.
I ended up getting a dish bussing tray that’s made of really heavy duty plastic (like the kind cutting boards are made of) and use that as a litter box now. He lost interest in chewing it,…[Read more]

i got my rabbit (F, 1 yr old) spayed about three weeks ago and she has recently started chewing on the lip of her litter box. it is one of those cheap, large plastic litter boxes for cats. while she doesn’t seem to be ingesting the plastic, i’m worried that she will hurt herself on the rough/sharp edges that come from her chewing.
any ideas on…[Read more]

Thank you so much for the advice! Im doing research but its always helpful to hear from people with experience. I did take your advice and put them in a room with a double divider so they cant bite each other and they both seem pretty relaxed, laying next to each other on either side of the divider, grooming on either side etc. I think Im going to…[Read more]

Bunnymom11 started the topic What Breed Is My New Bunny? in the forum THE LOUNGE 4 years, 2 months ago
We found this little cutie at Tractor Supply and couldn’t resist. We’ve owned a rabbit before, so we are familiar with the care needed.
What I don’t know is what breed this baby is? Anyone have any guesses?

DanaNM replied to the topic Thinking of getting my bunny a friend in the forum BONDING 4 years, 2 months ago
I’ll try to answer your questions in order!
So, we were planning on getting our male teenage rabbit a friend, but it turns out he wasn’t neutered. He’s getting neutered on the 1st of June. How long afterwards should we wait before starting to try and find him a friend?
A good rule of thumb is 3 weeks post-neuter for males. That’s usually eno…[Read more]

Wow, love the data!
If you keep seeing more and more mounting over the next few dates, it could be because the space isn’t neutral enough (especially with letting them walk there on their own, as they know have more of a mental map of where they are in relation to their territories).
Overall it looks like things are going well, but if things…[Read more]

Since the short date went I think you could keep doing short sessions, along with side swaps.
I’m guessing his grooming attempts were likely him trying to mount. Buns will usually do a bit of grooming before they mount, so I suspect your girl was onto his tricks. 😉
I would keep the sessions at 15 min or shorter for a bit, just to avoid pushing…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic neutered bunny trying to hump me non-stop in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago
I think asking for written confirmation is fair. Usually adoption paperwork will have the date of spay or neuter on it. Also I’m very sure that Archie’s situation was an error from the shelter, rather than an intentional lie! Rescues deal with tons of rabbits and mistakes and mix-ups do happen sometimes, although they are very rare!

Azerane replied to the topic Fur in litter box in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 2 months ago
Fur in the litter box is not a big concern. Do you perhaps mean that there is mould in the litter box? This can happen when the litter box isn’t changed often enough. I’m using wood pellets and I had some in there once when I hadn’t changed the box for longer than usual because I’d been very unwell.
