pminde replied to the topic Poor bun constantly sick 🙁 in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago
Thank you so much for the responses!
She’s doing better today with quite a few rounds of CC and a single dose of pain meds. She’s back to eating hay, yet a little less than she normally does, so i think she is still recovering. She is back to being pretty perky like before.
As far as why we haven’t had pellets in her diet since she was very…[Read more]

Thank you all, I’ll try desensitizing. See if that works for her.

This sounds great! It is normal for rabbit-savvy vets to not give a painkiller for young boys post surgery. They get a long lasting shot at the clinic before they go home, and they generally do excellently without any extra. (It’s very much different for girls, because spay surgery is a lot more invasive). Obviously if the vet detects a problem…[Read more]

I’m sorry you had to hear those sounds. It is as Dana says, rabbits scream when they go, more often than not, and it is believed that it is a kind of reflex rather than an expression of conscious agony. That makes total sense if you think of it from an evolutionary point of view. These days many rabbit vets give a strong sedative first, but that’s…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Why is my bunny having seizures? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 2 months ago
Hind end weakness is another common sign of ec. Maybe she’s capable of compensating for some hind end weakness when she’s alert and “herself”, but after a seizure she doesn’t have the strenght to? Exhaustion or/and mental confusion after an epileptic seizure is very common, as White Rabbit explains. (Oddly, the person often feels better mood-wise…[Read more]

That is wonderful news, Ellie! I hope you’ll be able to catch up on your sleep now, it must be such a relief to know he’s healthy! Rabbits do like to scare their hooms. I think it’s part of their world domination-strategy. It starts with soaked pellets and goes on from there to a bejewelled throne, a gold crown and an adorable little sceptre 😀

I’m so sorry for your loss. 🙁 How amazing that he made it to 11!
Those noises are so traumatizing, but it’s thought that the noises (and the head tilting back) are a reflex that occurs after the bun is already unconscious, so they are not indicating any pain in that moment. I’ve sadly experienced a few really traumatic bun deaths and what helped…[Read more]
