One of my pairs has some food-related aggression, which is not uncommon. Once the food is down they share happily, and go back to cuddling and grooming each other after meals so I don’t worry about it too much.

I would start trying to keep track of when you notice aggressive behaviors, and whether they also have positive behaviors in between. If…[Read more]

    Thank you for the reply!

I did remove the castle. I’ve had them for 3 weeks now. They were originally sharing everything, but when I saw that there was some fighting I added a second litterbox, and now there are also 2 food bowls and 2 water bowls. I took out hides originally, but last night took apart the castle and made it into 2 hides. They…[Read more]

I will add that while there is a likelihood it is ‘mating’-related, female rabbits will also circle and hump owner legs, typically in excitement. Regardless, neutering will be very beneficial for these urges. Whenever your rabbit-experienced exotic vet is comfortable doing so is fine, and especially compared to an invasive female spay, a male…[Read more]

Well, it is better not to have elective surgery during the hottest months, since risk of infection is higher in warmer weather. But a male neuter only leaves 2 very tiny wounds, so you have to weigh the pros and cons.

I’m not sure you risk him becoming aggressive, that’s mostly seen in dogs who are neutered after they’ve established a habit of…[Read more]

I’ll make sure to neuter him asap😭 I just didn’t wanna do it soon as I’m going to move cities in a month and I didn’t want him to go through stress during his recovery depending on how long it usually takes to recover from a minor surgery. I’ve been told it takes a few days or weeks maybe?

I think it’s very possible this was just triggered by the change in location, and the stress that goes along with it.  Have you removed the offending castle?  How many days have you had them?

A little chasing is OK at this phase, I would definitely monitor closely though. Do they share food and litter boxes without issues?

    I think continuing t…[Read more]

I agree with others, this sounds like it could def be dental pain. I would keep offering her whatever she will eat and get her checked by a vet ASAP to ensure it doesn’t turn to stasis. Definitely unlikely to be doing it for attention.

She might like some pellet mash or recovery food, so you could try offering that as well!

I too would suspect teeth. It doesnt have to be a very serious issue, some buns are sensitive. Teeth problems should be adressed swiftly though, if allowed to progress they can become very serious. A vet needs to examine he mouth with an otoscope, because its not possible to see the cheek teeth without an otoscope.

She’s not doing this for attention.

    Hi all,

I am a long-time bunny mom, but we have recently adopted our first pair. Eloise and Penelope are spayed and 1 year old; they were found together in a neighborhood, caught by the rescue, and spayed, so they have been together pre- and post-spay. Eloise apparently would chase Penelope pre-spay, but not afterward. When we brought them home,…[Read more]

That’s what I was wondering too. She has slowly finished her salad and pellets over the last few hours. What’s weird is that she will now eat as many pellets as I give her, but only if I feed them to her on the spoon that I keep in the pellet jar. If I hand them to her, or put them on the ground she won’t eat them. I’ve tried washing my hands a…[Read more]

Hmm… well, she’s still eating something so that’s good at least. Could her teeth be bothering her? Bunnies will become selective with their food when there’s a tooth problem. Usually hay is the first to go, but not always.

So this morning my rabbit didn’t eat her pellets or salad. I’m used to her not wanting her salad sometimes so that’s no big deal, but she always eats her pellets. She’s still active and playing like normal, eating some hay (but not as much) and eating some vegetables. It’s now almost 12 hours later and she’s still doing the same thing but she wil…[Read more]

Yeah, a lot of bunnies want to have a back door to their hideout.

Definitely mating ritual. He loves you so much he wants to make baby bunnies with you. 😉  I agree, you should be able to get him neutered sooner rather than later.
