I dont think its about boredom,  I think its just a natural response to the presence of another rabbit. Most animals, except dolphins, possibly other whales, perceive their mirror image as another animal. I’ll never forget when my dog saw herself in a wall mirror for the first time. She was just a pup. Her face lit up with delight at the sight of…[Read more]

    Thank you!

Kidney disease can hurt the heart, so maybe that’s why your vets want to ultrasound the heart.

I totally agree of course, that the Gabapentin wouldn’t be the cause of lethargy if he’s been on it for a year.

28 days of fenbendazole still remains the golden standard for the treatment of EC. It  seems to have fewer serious side effects…[Read more]

If there was any bone fracture, then the bones would have done what they will naturally do which is “heal”. Whether it is “proper” is based on what you mean by that. I would focus on getting an X-ray when you’re at the appointment to get a clear picture of what’s going on and what has happened.

My Wick fractured his toe and it’s healed, but…[Read more]

    Hey everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with dislocated/broken toes. I was trimming Odins nails about a week or two ago and noticed one of his toes was kind of different looking. It was straightforward. At the time I didn’t think anything of it since he contorts himself in all different ways to avoid nail clippings. Today…[Read more]

    Hi there,

My bun has started licking and scratching the floor-length mirror in my room and my glass shower door. Could she think it’s another rabbit? Sign of boredom or loneliness?

    Thanks

Oh dear, Molly does seem a bit young to have an adrenal tumor. I mean, I guess you never know. But I’m hoping it is something more simple like the others have suggested. There could still be a little piece of ovary still in there. Or she could be intersex and the first vet just missed the other stuff assuming they were only looking for a uterus…[Read more]

Hello! I have an indoor- free ranging bunny who is VERY messy! he absolutely loves to pull hay out of his litter box and spread it around my floor haha. Anyways, i was thinking of getting a hutch as a “home base” because he currently has an x pen and I just think its is hideous, and takes up too much space. He isn’t even in it much because he…[Read more]

Poor Bun Jovi. 🙁  Hopefully the adjusted dosage helps him. FWIW, cataracts can develop due to “old age” (just as it can in dogs). But the cataracts develop very slowly over time. You usually think of EC-related cataracts as developing rapidly.

the last time she got stasis she was shedding badly and had also gotten broccoli the night before so im wondering if maybe it could’ve been caused by both things. i probably wont be giving her broccoli anymore just to be on the safe side, but i definitely wont be giving her anything that can cause gas while she’s shedding.

So true about timing! Even now, I actually just went to his vet today to pick up his pain meds, but didn’t notice the eye until after I got home!

Thankfully I’m just driving to the conference so if things took a turn I could get home relatively easily.

Almost 1 year and a bit on Gabapentin, and it’s been adjusted to a super low dose to not cause drowsiness so definitely not the medication, the lethargy only started after the episode at the vet so I will continue the feeding and fluids and him get some well needed rest. I’m not sure why they want to do the ultrasound on his chest, I don’t think…[Read more]

It’s good to have such rabbit savvy friends! At this point I believe that people in the field have more useful experience than vets.

I really hope that you can find what’s troubling him. It’s good to hear that the newer test is better, any progress in rabbit vet care is very welcome!

An about that conference: the little buggers seem to plan it!…[Read more]

Just to add on, i checked in with my friend at BUNS about how often she sees cataracts in older buns and she said over the last year 4 of their resident senior rabbits (i think they are all around 9 or 10) all had cataracts and tested positive for EC. She also said the new EC test is much more reliable than the old one.

Of course I’m going to a…[Read more]

Intersex is not too uncommon in rabbits. Hopefully its sth that can be fixed without too much trouble.

One of my buns, Boo, is a shelter rabbit.  Walter was from a breeder.

Both are more hands off, but Walter does occasionally ask for pets.

It’s been about a year and a half, but the other day, Boo nudged (hey, we used to have a bunny named Nudge) my hand.  Just for a moment and probably looking for another of the Sherwood digestive tabs, her f…[Read more]

As long as he is maintaining his weight, I think he’s fine regarding food and hydration. It is very good to weigh a poorly bun daily or every other day and keep a weight diary.

Our own vet claimed high and low that they had removed everything. But he also claimed that you couldn’t do hormone tests on rabbits and that all this was just puberty.

So, I don’t know what to expect anymore…

Our best hope is indeed that they messed up her spay somehow. Or maybe Molly has an intersex condition? We hope to get more answers soon.

Well, some new developments. The cbd stopped helping so much, so I ended up switching him to twice a day meta-cam at a lower dose. I am doing .35mL twice a day, which puts him at around .6 mg/kg per day, in the range of typical doses for chronic use. I know I probably shouldnt mess with things without the vet’s approval, but he was really…[Read more]
