Love my bun replied to the topic Bunny loosing weight in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 6 months ago
Hi Bam-
Appreciate the speedy reply. The vet seemed to think that CC is a better product than Emeraid, not sure why. Maybe because she sells it? I hate to think that but…? IMO, I’m going to feed him whichever product I can get him to eat. Happily, he ate the huge serving of Emeraid I left out for him overnight! So thankful he’s not rejecting…[Read more]

@Love my bun, did yiur vet give any reason as to why they wanted you to give Critical Care instead of Emeraid? My only recovery food option here is CC, andthat’s unfortunate bc buns don’t seem to like it. It is a good product, but I’ve always had to syringe it, and it’s of course a huge advantage if the bun eats it from a plate or spoon.

I’m sorry to hear of your bun’s weight loss. I, too, am experiencing this with my 12 yo bun. I think he was close to 4 lbs when I adopted him at the age of 7 and now he is 3 lbs 10 oz. He just went to a new vet and had the most thorough work up he’s had in his whole life. Still waiting on the bloodwork results (fingers crossed) but his fecal gram…[Read more]

I’m glad he’s doing better again!
The unwillingness to eat hay does sound teeth-related, as hay is tough and needs to be chewed with a sideways motion of the jaws. If the bun can’t chew the hay it properly it’s more difficult for the body to extract the nutrients from it or ferment the really small bits into usefull nutrients (fatty acids,…[Read more]

Hello! I have 3 years old male french lop bunny that’s been struggling with weight loss recently. He’s been struggling with health ever since we got him, had severe coccidiosis, problems with teeth and many other things. For the past year he’s been doing pretty well, tho his immunity has been always lacking but overall was feeling fine.
About a…[Read more]

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it. I am planning on getting a tattoo as a memorial to her, as she really was so, so special to me. I may post a picture once it’s done, but it’ll have to wait a few months til I have the money to spare.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Biting in the forum BEHAVIOR 1 year, 6 months ago
Giving a chomp on the arm or hand while being held means “put me down”. I had one rabbit that would do this all the time. Keep in mind that rabbits are prey animals and tend to not enjoy being held. I would avoid picking him up when you don’t have to. When you do have to, it’s best to ignore the biting because, as Bam said, it makes them think…[Read more]

Yes he is completely acting normal. I actually have picked him up after that happened but I have to say I was a little nervous. So just keep picking him up? Should I wear gloves just in case? I figured as much that it had to do with him being in the teenage phase.

Binky free Esther — how amazing to have had a caring, one-of-a-kind loving owner by your side in this life.
Thanks for this lovely tribute post Bu. You made the right choice, and I’m sure she truly appreciated that.

To be honest, I would not attempt. Rabbits are very efficient in injuring another rabbit when they want, and there is no guarantee you will be readily available and in arms reach if something were to go awry. Of note, how a rabbit interacts with humans is not an indicator of how they will act with any particular rabbit– he could be very hostile,…[Read more]

Sorry no one replied to this! Basically you cannot and should not start any bonding until she’s spayed, because as you’ve pointed out baby bonds aren’t real bonds. It’s ok for them to see each other and live near each other, but I wouldn’t work on bonding them at all, there’s really no point and only downsides (like he attacks her when she’s a…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Introducing 2 cats to a rabbit in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 1 year, 6 months ago
It depends a lot on the temperament of the cats and the bun. Some buns are very bold and will chase cats away, some cats are very afraid of buns, and some will bother them more. My first cat used to try to chase my bun sometimes. That cat was more playful and the bun was more timid. I never allowed them out together unsupervised, and I would…[Read more]

You are right to be anxious about leaving them alone together. Prey animals and predatory animals should never, ever, ever be left alone – ever. Regardless of how well they get along. You should never trust a predatory with a prey animal, no matter how well you think you know them or how well you think they get along – animals will be animals, and…[Read more]

The jelly like substance indicates some gut irritation. And yes true diarrhea is totally liquid and is an emergency, but soft stools or cecal dysbiosis is not (although it’s still concerning). 1750 for an xray and fecal testing seems very high, ER prices are often much higher (for reference a similar service at my vet would cost around 600-700…[Read more]

I’m glad you took him in!
True diarrhea is alife-threatening condion, but it’s only true diarrhea if there is no solid or formed poop at all. Is he still having loose stools?
I too would take him to his regular vet if he doesnt improve.

Hello,
sorry for replying late. I brought him to the vet last night because he started have diarrhea and clear jelly like substance. Unfortunately there was no rabbit savy vet open near me so we had to take him to a normal vet. Luckily we found someone who had at least seen rabbits before. They gave us critical care and meds to take home. They…[Read more]
