I don’t use litter… Though I probably should. 🤔 Maybe that’s the problem I guess I never really thought about it. I just use puppy pad as liners changed out once a day. What type would you recommend?

Oh I have nothing like petsmart trust me. I’ll try meadow with chamomile maybe she will like it.

Hmm that’s really tough! It’s hard to know why bonds fail. I had a bond break once, and one of the leads at the rescue described it as “sometimes buns are just roommates for a while and then they decide to move on”. There is some evidence that suggests that female-female bonds are a bit more fragile. Have there been any changes in your household,…[Read more]

Hi so this is a bit of a strange question. How do I keep my white bed spread clean without having to remove my bunnies “bed privileges”? My two rabbits are free range in my bedroom and have access to everything. The room is bunny proofed except for my bed which I of course let them on. However I have a WHITE bedspread in which replacing is not an…[Read more]

Orchard does seem to be more palatable to some bunnies. And oat hay can be tempting, especially if it has seed heads. Do you have Petsmart or similar? Even they carry those types of hay.

Orange pee is perfectly normal. If it has been sitting for awhile, enough to start evaporating, it can start to look even darker because it is becoming more concentrated.

Sometimes bunnies like to sit in wet litter a little longer than they should. This can cause their feet to stain, especially if they don’t clean their feet very well. What kind of litter are you using? Some are definitely more absorbent than others.

Yes I will definitely try to experiment with other brands. We don’t have oat or orchard hay, only alfalfa and meadow and timothy but in very small quantities and in very good stocked pet shops, which is rare here. I’m just not sure if I should gradually reduce the alfalfa (which I’ve been doing for 2 weeks let’s say) or just rip the band-aid off…[Read more]

    You’re welcome and no worries!

My buns (I have 4!) are all 3-5 lbs. I used to feed more veggies but have fed a bit less in recent years and I think my buns are doing a bit better with this lower amount (fewer issues during molting, less gas episodes, etc.). It works out to about 1 large “handful” of salad per day per bun. I have these little…[Read more]

Rabbit pee can vary a lot in color, so I don’t think you should worry based on what you’ve described. It’s common for them to have more orange or red pee due to variation in diet. The urine can also get darker when it sits longer. When there is blood in urine it will be little droplets of blood, rather than uniformly red. If you aren’t sure you…[Read more]

Not all screens are equal. There are many screens that sit comfortably right on top of the litter and they are created in a way that generally does not facilitate sore hocks either. Here’s an example with plastic knitting mesh: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rabbits/comments/sh5dzp/housing_example_litterbox_setup/

The screens that are elevated above…[Read more]

Hmmm, I am also wondering about other types of grass hay. Have you tried oat hay? You may be able to order it online. The fact that she will eat some out of your hand is at least a start. Have you tried offering the hay in a bunch of different presentations? Like little boxes around with hay sticking out, or stuffed into toys etc.? I think…[Read more]

Rabbit urine can indeed be orange, and even very dark orange. If you have concerns about blood, you can put a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in the pee puddle and if it fizzes violently, that’s an indicator there’s likely blood in there, which is a cause for concern.

Take a look here for the healthy range of pee color and what may cause it:…[Read more]

So at times, rabbits are very much like kids. If you are continuing to provide alfalfa hay in meaningful quantities, she is going to continue eating it. For many rabbits, you sort of just need to rip off the bandaid and let their hunger motivate them to try and eat non-alfalfa hay more (making sure the timothy/orchard/oat/etc. hay you’re providing…[Read more]
