Sounds like it’s probably a binky 🙂
When rabbits run out of fear they usually bolt to a hiding spot or panic and crash into things. 🙁

Hello guys!
I have noticed that my rabbit kind of jumps or move his head from side to side really fast when I talk to him for example when I kind of call him he does this or tend to run really fast from side to side.
is he doing this due to his excitement or is he afraid or me ? I thought he did it kind of like a play with me thing but now I’m c…[Read more]

Oh, I see! Yeah, I was basically supporting Teddy’s whole weight with my left hand under his ribs, just letting his feet touch the towel to help him feel secure. But he was admittedly pretty mellow about butt baths most of the time. If Bun Jovi would try to bolt, that’s a different story! The rubber-toothed baby comb was a lifesaver for us in…[Read more]

Thank you. We use baby wipes when we can, but he prob needs an actual bath at least 2 times per week. He is still very “ornery” and sometimes the bath is actually faster and easier than the wipes because he hates people touching his bum and the water gets the poop off more quickly. The labored breathing was actually once I was already done with…[Read more]

Oh Dana, I’m so sorry!! I totally hear you. It is so hard. On the positive side, it is great that he seems fine otherwise.
I’m not sure what exactly his butt bath needs are like — do you think you could get away with wet wipes plus a water mister some days? This is what we usually did with Teddy, while doing grooming sessions on the bed (ov…[Read more]

Got a response from the vet. Not super helpful in terms of decision making. 🙁 She said:
Dana,
I am sorry you witnessed this. A stressed rabbit to the point of nostrils flaring and open mouth breathing is alarming and I know it must not have been easy.
It could indicate increased pain/discomfort or that something has developed in his chest…[Read more]

Thank you Meg. <3 Yes at his age I have a feeling this means the end is near, sadly. Until now his internal functions seemed mostly fine, it was just the mobility issues. If he was a younger bun I’d have been rushing him to the ER to figure out what was going on, but at his age I would rather have a peaceful passing for him. Thankfully he returned…[Read more]

Oh Dana, I am so so sorry to hear this!! =( (((hug))) My heart sank when I read this, especially because it sounds so similar to what Teddy went through on his last day. (Though with Teddy, he was not able to breathe completely normally that day; he would calm down and stop opening his mouth or making noise, but he would still open his top l…[Read more]

It’s been a while since I’ve updated. There have been some little issues over the last few months, and so far we’ve been able to deal with everything but this time I think it’s actually quite serious and probably means it’s time to say goodbye. When I was giving him his usual bum bath he suddenly started having very labored breathing. Very loud,…[Read more]

Cataracts can also be from EC! But also from age, as you said. It can be very difficult to tease thing apart but I would mention it to your vet again. The treatment for EC is generally very well tolerated.

I agree with bam! Meloxicam is great but it’s basically the equivalent of ibuprofen. It can only go so far in cases of acute and severe pain. And yes if he is showing any signs of improvement I would stick with the current course.
Molting can def be a trigger. It seems like many buns will go into stasis in spring time, even if they aren’t molting…[Read more]

One thing you can do for training treats is to use the bun’s normal daily pellet ration as treats. Then you can have something like a tiny piece of fruit as a “high value” treat. I’ve seen some trainers cut a dried cranberry into 1/8ths. One thing I’ve learned from dog training is if the treat smells really good it doesn’t have to be large!

Hello
I have a 10 year old neutered bunny that we have had since he was a baby. He recently decided to discontinue drinking. We have taken him to different vets, have had blood work, fecal flotation and urine analysis. His poo is smaller darker and harder than it should be however he is still urinating and there was no crystals in his uri…[Read more]

I havent tried this particular brand, but I did have a different brand of all timothy pellets. I’m sure they were very healthy, but unfortunately, my buns didnt consider them treats.
So I used them as maintenance food together with hay, and used normal pellets as treats. It is always difficult to find a treat that’s both yummy and not…[Read more]

Henry (1.5 years) is very food motivated but unfortunately puts on weight really quickly because he’s so small. I’m working on bonding with him and getting him to play, but it’s almost impossible without food 😅. He even only lets people pet him while he’s eating. His treats are mostly little pieces of fruit but I found these timothy hay pellets… -

Fingers crossed he’ll keep improving!
I agree it’d just be stressful for him to take him in for more testing/x-rays if the meds do their work within reasonable time. Once he’s eating a bit and there’s pee and poop, recovery can -and often is- be slow and nerve-wrecking, but as long as you see progress it seems he’s recieving the proper…[Read more]
