I cant see what these flowers are. I’d need a close-up of one of them to stand a chance 😄 I use a free app called PlantNet to identify plants. You upload a pic, then you get suggestions that you can choose from. If I feel uncertain, I upload 2 or more pics from different angles. That enables me to narrow down the hits.
As with mushrooms, if you…[Read more]

Does anyone know what these flowers/plants are? I was told that butterflies love them but not what they are; they appear every spring and summer. Also sorry that they’re not good photos, it’s bright outside and I used my tablet to take them.

It sounds like a wise thing to do, esp since the weekend is coming up. He might need some sub q fluids, a bit higher dose pain meds and perhaps a motility drug (for example metoclopramide). There’s an appetite-stimulating med called Mirtazapin (originally a human anti-depressant that is now also used to stimulate appetite in pets).

Sigh…
Unfortunately, the lack of eating, even though I have fed him Critical Care around the clock, seems to be turning into GI stasis. Taking him into the vet this morning.
While I have kept feeding him, I gave him the benefit of the doubt to “feel better” in 3-4 days, but his change is droppings led me to call the vet.
I feel as though I…[Read more]

It’s great that he has the energy and enthusiasm to chew a chew toy! Chewing a chew toy is indeed a front teeth thing, its hay eating that requires the sideways motion and necessary grinding of the molars. The squeaky sound probably means there’s still some uneveness, but I know from experience that minor uneveness can be ground down if the bun…[Read more]

The narrator said that after the dr looked in the rabbits ear for like a second and said it was EC when it was just mites. 🤷♀️

Thank you for your reply and thoughts!
Yes, most certainly, I am feeding him Critical Care throughout the day (and night) and he is mostly his vibrant self. He is strong as I can feel his strength when he pushes me away during feedings!
Still, he is not back on his regular diet. I wonder if the cut to his tongue as well as bruise on his cheek is…[Read more]

Happy to help! I love talking about parasites 😀

Excellent job explaining Dana! I wonder why the TV show would say that. Unless they were just trying to say they are both parasites?

DanaNM replied to the topic Peeing outside of box in the forum BEHAVIOR 3 years, 2 months ago
Ah that’s very frustrating! Some buns see the “litter box” as more of a zone, rather than the box itself, so I think that’s probably what’s happening here. One thing you might try is to replace the flooring with a sheet of vinyl flooring (temporarily) to see if that helps. Many buns pee on soft things or he could be triggered to mark by some…[Read more]

Hi,
I have an almost two year old male who is neutered and he is bonded to a 2 year old spayed female. I’ve had problems with my little guy peeing outside the box in his x-pen pretty much since I got him. I’ve tried two litter boxes, I’ve tried three litter boxes, I have re-positioned the boxes multiple times, I’ve tried different types of…[Read more]

That narrator was definitely wrong! I’ll try to lay it out in simple terms, but let me know if you have more questions (I have a parasitology background).
E. cuniculi is a type of single-celled fungal parasite, whereas ear mites are multi-celled animals in the same group as spiders and ticks. I have no idea why the narrator would say they are the…[Read more]

I’d say you should see improvement over the next few days. How kong it takes depends not only on the severity of the problem but also on how long there has been a problem. One of my buns went 4 weeks before my vets decided he probably needed a burr although his spurs were super tiny. It then took him 5 days to get back to normal eating. I think…[Read more]

Thank you for that advice!
I need to remind myself that 1. he is on antibiotics 2. his tongue has a cut 3. he has bruising on his cheek as to why he is not eating yet. Have to admit though, it scares me, though I know he needs time to become comfortable to eat!
Do you have a timeframe where I should become concerned? The vet said to call if…[Read more]

I don’t know if this is the right post for this thread/post but I was watching Critter Fixers last night and one of the doctors said the rabbit he was treating had E. Cuniculi and the narrator said that ear mites and E. Cuniculi were the same thing but my research told me they’re not? But I don’t fully understand it so I’m just looking for some…[Read more]

Do you know type of antibiotics and what delivery?
Sometimes subcutaneous injections of penicillin are needed, as oral antibiotics won’t penetrate.
I’m glad she doesn’t seem to be in pain. <3

We gave her antibiotics and it didn’t do anything…currently she is on painkillers, she’s happy and eating. the wound is right under her eye and it spreaded really fast the vet was surprised. The vet felt the wound and she said it felt really hard and that there was no liquid inside.. also it’s dangerous to operate since it’s right under her eye…[Read more]

Have any antibiotics been tried? And they are sure it’s not an abscess?
If she’s scratching at it she may need to wear an e-collar. They are normally not recommended for buns but in this case it might be necessary. they have soft collars that are less stressful.
Poor bun 🙁
