Ample amounts of gel like poop can/will lead to dehydration, so its very important that he keeps hydrated. In a very young bun this would be a veterinary emergency. I’m very sorry you cant reach a vet during the weekend, I’m in a similar situation where I am.
The gel is probably due to irritation of the large intestine, which in turn is a result…[Read more]

Update:
Yesterday and until this morning he was visibly improving a lot. His stools were still wet and the wrong color, but they were much firmer and closer to a good shape, though some were much larger and longer than usual. He was also eating more pellets and a good amount of hay.
Now, for the past 2 hours, he has pooped maybe 1 or 2 n…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Dorian appears to have sore hocks in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 3 years ago
Rexes are a lot more prone to callusing/sore hocks than other breeds. I read somewhere that rex rabbits will invariably get callused heels at some point in their lives. As long as they stay calluses its not a problem, but we need to keep a close eye (of course) so we can catch any problem before it becomes a real problem (I have a mini rex girl).…[Read more]

I always had more luck with azithromycin when dealing with a stubborn URI. Every bunny is different though. It’s going to depend on what the bacteria actually is.

Dorian has two little bare patches with small bump, pretty small, about the size of the little balls on top of some pins. They are right on the very end of his heel. I can try and get a photo, but bit challenging. I am not sure why he has them, as he is free roam and most of the house is carpeted and I have rugs for him in the kitchen. Their room…[Read more]

Thank you. That does seem like a possibility as well. It’s kind of a sad thought that this bunny – at approximately 4+ years old – hasn’t learned that yet.

I’d give it more time — the skin flinching can be a normal reaction for rabbits who have not yet learned what a human pet feels like and the nice consequences of it. It is a new feeling and like with anything new, most rabbits will react in an anxious and guarded way.

Right, so basically just be prepared that we could face a relapse regardless. Hopefully not, I don’t think I could handle it again to be honest.
He’s had 4 full days of his antibiotics so far, this evening he gets his 5th dose, and I haven’t heard any improvement. He’s on a 10 day prescription so feeling very discouraged, as I would have hoped t…[Read more]

She’s pretty! Since you’ve only had her for a month, is it possible you’re just seeing a physical manifestation of her internal struggle to trust you despite her prey instincts? Do you know what the environment she was in before was like and whether she was abused or whether she had very much human interaction?
You’re right that is possible…[Read more]

He is doing a lot better today, yesterday he actually ate a nearly-normal portion of pellets by himself, but I’m keeping the canned pumpkin tip, in case he stops again. I will make sure to avoid sugar.
I see, I will get some cat grass today then! Thank you very much.
I spoke with the vet again and she told me, since his mood and activity seems…[Read more]

Hello! He seems to be doing better, most of the time. Thank you so much for the tip!! I actually noticed mine doing this by himself last night, picking out only the softer/smaller bits, I am going to follow your example and pick them out for him manually.

Yes, cat grass if often wheat grass, but can also be oat or barley. Nothing wrong with any of those grasses. They are safe to feed to a bunny. Fresh grass will “feel” like veggies, but it will have more fiber.

Hi everyone,
I adopted a Californian from the humane society a month or so ago. She has had her checkup and seems healthy though a bit extra chubby. She is my third rabbit in the house (my other bonded two are in the front of the house) and I also have foster rabbits in another room. She lives in the main family room and gets to come and go as…[Read more]
