I dont know what type of fur a Californian should have, but some daily sunflower seeds could perhaps help with fur quality. Sunflower seeds have a very good mix of fatty acids.

It looks like a dead tooth to me as well. Perhaps a peg tooth that tried to grow back at one point?

To me it looks like a “dead” tooth. I had a bun who had “dead” teeth on his right side upper jaw. They were not infected, just useless and made chewing painful for him. It’d probably be better for yout bun if you could have the tooth pulled.

    Hi everyone,

I have an ~8 year old “big ugly” Netherland dwarf rabbit. His previous owners had his teeth pulled when he was little because they were crooked, but he still had one weird tooth that grew straight out from his gums, kind of behind where his front lips split. It’s never bothered him, but I checked on it today and it has what looks to…[Read more]

I will for sure, and good to know! Also something I’ve realized with him is that I think I have to shave him like once a year in order for his fur to look good and healthy. I got him after he was shaved and when it grew back his fur looked great, but over the past 6 months or even a year his fur has just constantly been in a state of m…[Read more]

People can definitely be allergic to rabbits. I know from personal experience. Haha! But it’s much more common for people to be allergic to hay because grass allergies in general are common. Perhaps it is just a matter of when the hay was harvested. People can be more reactive to hay, depending on when it was harvested and what cut (1st, 2nd,…[Read more]

Hmm… I wonder if you could go by whisker follicle pattern. It is used to identify individuals in a variety of other mammals. Probably wouldn’t be easy on certain colors though.

Cataracts is associated with EC, but it can also be old age. The difference is how rapidly it develops. Cataracts caused by EC will show up very quickly, like practically overnight. Cataracts due to age develops slowly over time. My bunny had Cataracts that developed due to age. He could still see fairly well up until the end of his life, then he…[Read more]

Thank you, I will definitely mention arthritis to the vet next I take him there. His litterbox does have an entire side that’s like 2cm from the floor so he can enter very easily.

I see, the vet also said it’s probably because of how upsetting it all was for him, that’s good to know! Thank you!

Cararacts can be a sign of EC. It’s often seen in v young individuals that have caught ec in the womb, but it can occur later in a buns life too. Typical of ec cataracts is that they progress v rapidly.

For chronic therapy-resistant sinusitis they drill holes into the sinuses of humans too to drain them. The surgery is called FESS. I have a…[Read more]

    I also forgot to mention;

I brought my other rabbits (who lives with him) for a general check up; she’s started on antibiotics for an occasional sneeze/wet nose (she’s on the same thing he was to see if it does anything for her while we wait for his results). But also during her check up the vet discovered she has slight cataracts when exa…[Read more]

That’s great he has gained strength and his lungs sound good! Def a good sign. Hopefully you get some answers from the CT.

And yes please do continue updating this thread! We love updates, and they can be very educational for other members. Having it all in one thread makes it much easier to keep track of the full story. 🙂

Hope it’s alright to continue to update this thread – it’s useful for myself too for time stamps/remembering dates, so if it could help someone else out I guess that’s a bonus!

The marbfloxacin did absolutely nothing. No improvement at all. He also hasn’t got any worse, and the vet said his lungs actually sound very good – it just seems to be a…[Read more]

I think I would opt to try a dif type of hay (such as orchard) before resorting to hay cubes. I know of several ppl that are allergic to timothy but not orchard. Hay cubes should really just be a supplement/treat. The Oxbow Hay stacks are different and might be a good option, as they are hay still in it’s normal form, but pressed into discs that…[Read more]

I’m also wondering exactly how close your daughter’s room is to the laundry room and if the additional lint and dust from the laundry could be another contributing factor to her health issues. Could you put a second humidifier and air filter in the laundry room, but leave the ones she already has in her room? That might help with both hay and laundry dust.
