It makes sense because when she was baby, the house she used to live was inappropriate in many ways, the space the lived was too small, dirty and they feed her tons of fruits and bad pellets. I’m pretty sure she was around 1 to 2 months, a literal baby.
What is appropriate to do when the bunny has a non-genetic GI problem?

Thank you all for your replies, really appreciate. After weighing in, it’s with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to not go through with the surgery. Miso has an antibiotic, eye drops and painkiller treatment for a limited amount of time and we will have to let him go soon. The abscess is apparently stretching constantly the optical nerve to the…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply. I’ll ask my vet if nebulizer is an option cause I know for sure my rabbit will hate the drops in the nose. Are nebulizer generally considered safe and sucessful for rabbits with snuffles? Also another question: my rabbit has been using ciprofloxacin for months for his cataract (e cunniculi), is that what is usually done for c…[Read more]

This isn’t super common, but yes, you can use antibiotic drops in the nose. It’s usually either Ciprofloxacin or Gentamycin. He probably won’t like it, but it’s just a drop or two. Another option would be to use a nebulizer to deliver the antibiotic.

She could have just had a little bit of an upset. If she seems fine now, then I would just keep an eye out for any additional mucus.

I’ve posted before about one of my rabbits respiratory issues and sounds/labored breathing. The vet wants to put ciprofloxacin on his nose, like, tilt his head up and put a drop of it on each nostril. I’ve never heard of this before and scared my rabbit will feel uncomfortable like a drowning feeling. He says it will cure his alleged snuffles (id…[Read more]

Hi thank you for your reply, yes she had quite a lot of carrot yesterday I also introduced her to pak Choi which she’s never tried before I don’t know if the combination of the two may have upset her stomach, but she’s been very energetic today still eating and trying to get any vegetables of me as per usual her poos have been very healthy too s…[Read more]

Did she eat anything with carotenoid pigments? Carrots, dark leafy greens (kale, collard greens), etc.? Mucus can happen sometimes, although it is often a sign of inflammation in the GI tract.

I’m sorry this is happening to your bunny. I agree that you should weigh your options. What would the vet do if this were her bunny? Then decide what you think is best for Miso. There are definitely options for palliative care, as Dana mentioned. There have been members on BB in the past that have had decent luck with pen G shots. It doesn’t cure,…[Read more]

Hi I wonder if anyone can help my rabbit is 2 years old she has dental disease but is on metacam for pain relief, she’s always running about quite energetic and eating all her Pellets and vegetables and lately her poo has been looking really healthy, today she’s also had healthy poo but just now I saw a poo she’d done and it has some orange…[Read more]

Poor Miso 🙁 It does sound like a very complicated surgery that would likely require lots of follow-up care. And without knowing the full extent of issues it’s hard to say, as there could be a lot more going on that you can’t see.
I can’t speak to a completely similar experience… but I did have a bun with a dental abscess. His was due to…[Read more]

Thank you for your input. Yes, at this point, the first thing is that the CT scan would cost already as much as the surgery itself. But independently from the cost (as our bunny is family and we just wanna do what’s best for him), due to where the abscess is, the vet (who has performed that kind of surgery before, so knows what she’s doing) is not…[Read more]

If flooring is the issue, I recommend dog whelping mats. I get fleece ones with grippers on the back.

Ugh I’m so sorry. 🙁
Not all abscesses recur, but I think I would want to be sure there aren’t other abscesses brewing as well. Does the vet have any ideas about how the abscess formed? They are often dental origin. It may be necessary to get a CT scan to know for sure, which I know would be expensive. 🙁
For abscess treatment, generally the…[Read more]

<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>I think these are bunny safe. Rice glue is made of rice and water, and it would dissolve in the rabbit stomach. I have used sth similar for my buns. But as with all new food it’s recommended to start with smaller amounts -maybe let him have the timmy pop for a short time, then take it away and give it back the n…[Read more]

Hey everybody, I just got these for my rabbit, and I was just wondering. How safe are these for rabbits? I know they are made of timothy hay, apple sticks and rice glue. Is the rice glue harmful? Would these hurt a rabbit with some intestinal problems in the past (thankfully it’s…[Read more]

Its not possible to say what these bugs are, but they probably were in the hay when you bought it. Grain of sand-size seems to tiny for flour beetles, and meal moths are moths, so that’s not a good fit either. So I’d suspect the hay.
You can freeze pellets and store them in the freezer and only take out what you need for a cpl of days or so at a…[Read more]
