With horses we typically suspect worms and/or ulcers first. I’ve never heard about buns getting ulcers and I don’t know how he would have worms or any kind of parasite without the other buns having them/showing signs of it too. I suppose I’ll bring him to the vet to have blood work done and maybe bring in a fecal sample as well, assuming that’s…[Read more]

There are several things that could be going on with a rabbit that cant put on weight despite eating properly, most of them are not good. Rabbits are in many respects similar to horses -theyre both hindgut fermenters. Some vets even call rabbits tiny horses 🥰 I dont know if this could be some sort of malabsorption issue? What would you suspect was…[Read more]

Alternatively from parasites, could this be some side effect from all the dang ivermectin his previous vet had me give him for the ear mites over like a 1.5-2 year timespan?

Is it at all possible that something else is it play here? An internal parasite or something? I just… find it very strange that he’s as skinny as he is with how well he eats. I can feel his bones. And his fur quality… my god. It’s so hard to explain but basically I groom him (pluck him because that’s the only way to get his fur out) twice a…[Read more]

So my bonded pair Starlight and Sanford have been aggressively chasing and humping each other all day and I have no idea why. They are both spayed/neutered and have been for quite some time. The fighting was so bad that Starlight was pulling pieces of fur from Sanford.

I think the fighting is more being instigated by Starlight who is an almost 4…[Read more]

I came back to reply to this thread, but could find it. I was going to say that the one on the left definitely looked small. I’m glad switching to a regular cat litter box helped. Sometimes all the need is a bigger place to do their business.

The Oxbow senior food has alfalfa in it, so I think that would be a good thing to try. Older bunnies sometimes have a hard time keeping weight on, so it doesn’t hurt to feed them more or feed them something that is more “fattening”. When my bunny was old, the vet said he could eat as much as he wanted so I gave him extra pellets. He was on regular…[Read more]

<p data-xf-p=”1″>So if you saw my other post, we took our bunny to the vet to make sure his lip was okay. Thank goodness it was! They commented on him being skinny. I thought he was a bit lighter too, but now it’s confirmed. He is about 10 years old. He eats Timothy and orchard hay, Martin mills adult Timothy pellets and little vegetables like l…[Read more]

Right now, it just looks like it’s trying to heal over. That is what a “scab” looks like on a mucus membrane, like in the mouth. As Bam said, if it suddenly starts getting bigger then there is likely an abscess growing under there. That would need antibiotics to treat.

How long ago did this happen?

I dont think you should do anything with the lip yourself. If the white spot means an abscess is forming, the lip will probably swell even more. It can happen quickly. He would then need to see a vet for antibiotics and perhaps to clean out the abscess. Maybe you could call his vet and ask for some advice seeing that…[Read more]

Hi there! So I got home today to visit my bunny at my parents place and was told he fell off the couch, it’s very low like 2 feet but I think he must have cut his lip with his teeth in the way down. He was acting totally normal though since then. They said he had a little bit of blood in the lip from the cut, not bleeding a lot or anything just l…[Read more]
