Thank you for your response!! I was actually thinking the same thing about Bordetella, but just listened to the vet and let her do her thing but maybe I should bring that up to her. His nose is still red, but not as bad as it was when I first adopted him. He is kind of a weird rabbit and also struggles with keeping his bottom clean, I am not sure…[Read more]

Rabbits are apt to do silly wabbity things, like chew bars from the outside or from the inside of a cage that’s always open. Why they do this is still not fully understood by us mere humans. It could be that they just always want to take the shortest distance route to whatever target spot they’ve picked.
It is however best to try and stop them,…[Read more]

The fact that they found Bordetella doesn’t mean much. Like Pasteurella, it can be present in rabbit sinuses and not cause any symptoms. It’s just part of the microbiome. Since you have tried antibiotics that are effective against Bordetella, then it may be that the Bordetella wasn’t an issue at all.
Does he have any other symptoms? You mentioned…[Read more]

Hi everyone! I am in need of some medical advice. I am currently seeing a vet, but we are both a little stumped.
I recently (in March) adopted another rabbit (male) to bond with my own (female). From the start, I noticed he had a very red nose, but assumed it was just how he was. I soon noticed that he was sneezing and wheezing a lot and…[Read more]

Wow, I’m surprised a new location didn’t help! I’m sorry it didn’t work out, I can empathize.Ā I agree with trying any options before giving up, but at some point it’s just too stressful when it goes nowhere. It sounds like everyone is happier now.
I’ve not tried mine again lately, but I don’t imagine they would be any better than before.

As said already, this sounds more like gas. Gas can progress to stasis if it doesn’t resolve, and can also be caused by stasis. Since this is frequent, you might try eliminating pellets to see if she is sensitive to an ingredient. Does she eat her hay well? It also may be worth having her teeth checked, as dental pain can lead to gas in some instances.

One trick to help with bar chewing is to put a visual barrier up, like a towel or sheet clipped to the pen walls (or a piece of cardboard). For whatever reason this really seems to help. You can also clip grass mats to the bars as a toy.

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny acting weird and won't eat in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 11 months ago
Anytime a bun won’t eat, especially a treat, is cause for alarm. It sounds like it could have been a gas attack, which can cause a lot of pain but then pass. How is he doing this morning?

Well, I am officially throwing in the towel. At the bonder’s the girls were basically fighting every 20 minutes for the first 48 hrs, so we agreed it was not a good match. She said that usually in a new place it helps them bond together, but the girls showed no interest in being bonded. She was open to keep trying if I wanted to but I felt that…[Read more]
