Yes, I plan on trying Oat too. I see BB had Wheat too. What’s wheat like? I was thinking before he’d prefer softer but he crunches on extremely hard cookie…
HMM, I may be feeding too much oat and seeds… On the other hand, his poops actually look pretty good compared to before.
Our vets are very savy but I’ve never bothered asking about…[Read more]

My cats have mostly ignored the buns, and more often than not the cats are afraid of the buns. It’s usually only an issue with baby rabbits or very small ones. Always a good idea to supervise to make sure things stay civil though, especially if the cat has a higher prey drive or is younger. My previous cat would occasionally chase one of my buns…[Read more]

Oh really? I would’ve thought that a cat (as a predator) would naturally attack a rabbit (as a prey animal). We had a cat when I was young who caught and ate a wild rabbit so I assumed they were natural enemies. And would a rabbit not be terrified of a cat as it can tell it’s a predatory animal?
If so, that could work great as it would definitely…[Read more]

Arg that’s so frustrating. 🙁 I’m going to move this to another section as it’s not bonding related. You also may want to post on rabbitsonline.net as they have more experience with this. Also check out these resources:

I just bought a new rabbit, an angora mixed with a Californian, and I’ve had her for about two weeks. She was fairly around Jupiter’s age, which is why I bought her. Her and Jupiter have bonded, and it was fairly easy. I went outside earlier this week to find that she was pulling her fur off of her stomach, eating more, and would constantly get…[Read more]

I agree with Bam that there is something medical going on, and I also think EC and/or dental problems should be investigated. You may want to find another vet if possible.

Sherwood appetite restore is more like bunny “Gatorade”, so I don’t think that would be appropriate in this situation, but you could certainly try it.
Also, just to be sure, what type of medical issues is your bun having? It sounds like he is on palliative care, is he on pain management? Have his teeth been checked? There are also some pellet…[Read more]

The cat shouldn’t be a problem at all! Keeping it in another room if it’s pestering the buns should be fine, but it might even ignore them. And I think that sounds like a good option, especially once sessions get a bit longer!
I used to set up a pen in my friend’s garage when I lived in a studio apartment and it worked out great.

Seeds and grains are unhealthy for healthy rabbits because healthy rabbits are prone to weight gain, and filling up on high calorie low fiber food can interfere with hay consumption. Buns are highly selective eaters and will go for the richest food available.
For a poorly elderly bun that has difficulty keeping weight on, the situation is…[Read more]

4 years is of course not ancient, but its around the time when many buns get dental problems.
Diabetes seems to be very, very rare in rabbits, they seem to metabolize carbs differently from us, cats and dogs, but you are of course right in that diabetes often first manifests as huge thirst and ample urination plus weightloss.
It is often…[Read more]

They really didn’t have much of a clue at the rescue I got him from. If I had to guess, he is maybe 4ish? I remember asking my vet if he could possibly have diabetes, due to how much water he can drink (he legit drinks more than my 8 and 5 lb buns together). He’s been this way for as long as I’ve known him, so again almost a year. I think I’ve…[Read more]

So I gave him more alfalfa (was building up to unlimited), sprinkled/mixed in soft orchard. He picks out all the alfalfa, pushes all the orchard away, and then ignores his CC / mashed pellets (which includes some junior pellets). He will eat the mush fine but reluctantly… hoping for more alfalfa and when he can’t hold out, then eats it. I even…[Read more]

Drinking a lot and peeing all over the place is not normal. Together with difficulty keeping weight on I’d say there’s something going on. You need a vet to figure out what. Polydipsia and polyuria (drinking and peeing lots) can be symptoms of many different things. E cuniculi can affect the kidneys (e cuniculi is more known as the cause of head…[Read more]

My bunny boy Turkey is a rescue mini rex that I’ve had for about a year. He gets 1/5 a cup of science selective grain free pellets, unlimited Timothy hay, fresh herbs or romaine (I mix it up throughout the week). All my others bunnies seem to have more of an issue with keeping weight off, not putting it on. He has always had quite a pudgy tummy,…[Read more]

Thanks for the responses, both of you.
I was planning to try the bath tub when I do start re-bonding them. I do have a friend who lives just five minutes down the road so I could ask him if I could use his place. He has a cat though but maybe we could leave the cat closed in one room and they could have their bonding sessions in another if he…[Read more]
