I would keep up with his current diet and start weighing him weekly. Then you’ll have a good series of weights to share with your vet at his Oct check -up. Rabbits can have a bit of a redistribution as they settle into their adult bodies. Lean is not a bad thing for rabbits, but you are correct in that you want to make sure he’s putting on good…[Read more]

Hmmm it’s a bit borderline. My senior got a scaly patch on the back of one ear that I was worried was fur mites, but it never changed in either direction with treating for mites. I think you could probably keep and eye on it. If the scaly area starts growing then I would have the vet take a look and see if it could be fur mites. Ear mites show up…[Read more]

Hello all!
My wonderful Senior rabbit Heidi (9.5 years old) has begun her fall molt and I noticed her ears looked fluffier/were molting at the tips too. Upon looking closer I can see some little skin flakes as shown in the images attached. The inside of her ear also has just a small touch of this dry skin. She hasn’t really itched more than n…[Read more] -

It doesn’t seem to hurt her when I touch it. Overall, she seems healthy-eating and playing, etc. I will see if it gets any bigger, or changes color or texture. Hopefully, it is just a benign mole, or a passing pimple. I would rather not take them out to the vet unless it’s clearly an emergency, on account of the hemorrhagic disease.

Sometimes bunnies will get pimple-like bumps in their ears, as if their pores get clogged or something. The size of a pencil eraser is pretty big though. I’m going to say probably not a pimple.

Right now, it is only about the diameter of a standard pencil eraser

How big is it? Diameter, like?
My bun Bam sometimes got those flat same-color-as-skin-moles. They werent big though, a few millimeters in diameter.

Hi! My loppy girl just popped out a smooth, flat mole in one ear. It is firm, and the same color/texture as surrounding skin. Her husbun has no such growths in his ears. I first noticed it yesterday morning- you can’t really see it-I felt it, petting her. How panicky should I be, please? (They are both house rabbits, who never go outside.)

I approved this just to adress your last sentence, but will close this thread to keep replies in one thread.
You seem like a very caring rabbit owner. You didnt purposely starve your bun. It is difficult to keep track of everybunny’s individual hay consumption when you have more than one bun. You got them a sitter for when you were away -it is…[Read more]

My baby starved to death with unlimited food. The vet couldn’t find a thing wrong with her… she just had absolutely no body fat.
We have three rabbits. We had three rabbits.
One of our rabbits was overweight and the other two were getting there, so we had them on a no-pellets diet our vet approved. We gave them each 3-5 handfuls of…[Read more]

I’m so sorry. The guilt is immense, I know. I feel it too.
She sounded like a great bunny, and you loved her very much. Sometimes we don’t have the information we need to give the best care possible to our babies. But that doesn’t mean you didn’t love her deeply and give her the best care you knew to give, or that you’re not capable of learning…[Read more]

I’m very sorry this happened to you and your bun.
Starvation is mainly a risk when you abruptly change a rabbit over to a hay only diet (leafy greens more of enrichment than an important source of nutrients). So I’m thinking your bun could have had a minor dental problem that made her reluctant to eat hay. Sometimes even the smallest molar spurs…[Read more]

Yes that is Cosmo! ^^ And yes he’s been to the vet twice. I have an appointment on October 26th for a check up for a neuter. But that’s a day before his first birthday so I didn’t want to have to wait until then to get advice. I can’t do anything about the date because they have a packed schedule. That’s interesting but I don’t see how it’s okay f…[Read more]

<p style=”padding-left: 40px;”>Assuming Cosmo is the bunny in your profile picture I must say he’s adorable! Has he seen a rabbit savvt vet yet? It can be extremely difficult to judge the weight of rabbits and just like humans, some of them carry their weight on different parts of the bodies and in different ways. One of mine has bony shoulder…[Read more]

When choosing a pellet brand, look for ones that are primarily hay based. No “fun” colorful bits or seeds.
Sherwood and Garden Select are two good ones.

My Mini Lop Cosmo is 11 months and weighs 5 pounds but still has very prominent bones and I just can’t seem to get him to put on that weight. I could tell that his bones got bigger but the fat went down and even his tummy isn’t as plump as it always was. So I thought maybe he needs more in his diet. As of right now I feed him 4 tbsp alfalfa pel…[Read more]
