It sounds like whatever was going on is working itself through! I’ve been in that situation before concerning the vet and it is awful. Bam gave great advice on supportive care, warmth is very important.

It could be either gas, a partial fur blockage, or cecal dysbiosis (or a combo) given the mushy poops. Cecal dysbiosis can cause gas and be very…[Read more]

Thank you for all the help! I deeply appreciate it.

Thought I’d give a small update: he’s eating more hay and when I push him to move every twenty-ish minutes, he has more of his leftover veggies from earlier in the day. Appetite is nowhere near normal for him, but it’s noticeably improving.

His poops have also gone from soft, mushy, near liquid…[Read more]

(As you know, we can’t diagnose rabbits here because we are not vets).

This said, if a vet visit is out of the question, I’d try the following things that I do for gas pain:

Simethicone baby gas drops, if you have that. You can give 0.5-1 ml per hour for two or three hours.

Metacam (meloxicam) is very good, since you seem to have that, because…[Read more]

I cannot take him to the vet.

Every vet near me who sees rabbits is booked for a week out and won’t take emergency walk-ins.

The closest emergency vet is two hours away and I don’t have a car nor can I afford an Uber going two whole hours.

I agree, a large dog crate isn’t big enough for one rabbit, let alone a pair. They are likely fine during the day because they are sleepy and are more active at night. There is some info here on house rabbit housing: https://binkybunny.com/infocategory/house-rabbit-habitats/

Simply adding an x-pen to your dog crate would make it a lot more…[Read more]

I’d honestly hold off on adding another rabbit IMO. Rabbits need a lot of space at night, at all hours of the day honestly (3m x 2m access 24/7 is the recommended bare minimum by Rabbit Welfare UK). So I think based on your current situation, also given that your two rabbits don’t get along perfectly as is (adding a third rabbit could make you…[Read more]

I have 2 large dog crates.

I can’t tell if they were fighting or playing when I did it. They were fine from 8pm-10pm then I could hear them running around and when I came down to check it appeared that they were chasing each other.

do you know why they are fine together during the day in 1 cage?

i found a cage for hopefully the new bunny that h…[Read more]

If your buns are unable to be in a cage together overnight I would be very concerned about adding a new rabbit in the mix. Also how big is the cage? 2 rabbits need more space than 1 rabbit.

The way a rabbit is around humans does not predict how easy they will be to bond, unfortunately. The best option is go through a rescue that allows…[Read more]

    Thank you for the information.

my males are neutered and bonded accept they have separate cages side by side because they get aggressive with each other if locked in 1 cage. The weird part of that is they will hang out together and cuddle etc in 1 cage during the day but the cage door is open so they can come and go as they please.

    the bunny…[Read more]

You should not do any introductions until your new bunny is spayed and hormones have settled.

Trios are hard. It really depends on personalities. I’ve tried twice to bond a trio and once to bond a quad and have failed all three times because in each case one of the pairings just would not get along. Since you already have two males (I’m assuming…[Read more]

Gender honesty does not matter. It is all entirely dependent on the personality of your rabbits & the new rabbit as to whether or not they get along. You won’t know that they’re a good match usually until around 5-6 months old.

rabbits are also very active at night, so even though your buns are only caged at night, they still need tons of roo…[Read more]

We’ve actually had very few problems since a couple days after I made this post, haha! She’s stopped growling and nipping at me when I put my hand in her pen. I think having her free roam for a little while daily for a few days has helped. She still lunges and growls at my cat, but I make sure they don’t come in contact while she’s out. I still p…[Read more]

I’m thinking about getting a 3rd bunny. The breed is an American Chinchilla rabbit.

it would be a baby. My other 2 are 2 year old males. They are only in their cages when we go to bed.
I know I’ll need a neutral space to introduce the baby bunny with the other 2. I’m going to use my bathroom. I am going to fix the new bunny but until that happe…[Read more]

Thank you! Yeah, that’s what I was thinking with the chewing, she has always been a big chewer though so it’s hard for me to tell, I bought her one of those willow vine baskets and she had the entire thing gone by the next day! I’m almost more than certain they will be doing a very thorough examination, if not I will definitely ask but Cornell is…[Read more]

Bunnies are weird and will test boundaries even though there is an obvious exit. I would not be concerned unless he does this obsessively. If it’s an obsessive behavior, he could potentially bite too hard and hurt his teeth.

Thank you for the update and good luck with your upcoming visit! When infection/disease is present in the bone, sometimes you will see some crazy bone remodeling/growth in response. I’m sorry it seems like the abscess is still moving around though.

Chewing could be a response to discomfort in the mouth. Will they be looking at her teeth too? I…[Read more]
