I think the “young kids and rabbits don’t mix well” is tailored more so to parents who get their kids rabbits and expect them to be solely responsible. Kids can also sometimes be pretty rough/heavy handed even petting animals and rabbits are pretty small to tolerate that kind of roughing. That, and most kids see “omg cute bunny, I want to hold th…[Read more]

Children can be taught to handle rabbits with care and respect. In my opinion that’s a very good thing to teach children. It is true that rabbits shouldn’t be bought as “toys” for kids -rabbits need adults as primary caretakers and children do need to be taught how to handle and behave around rabbits. But that is true for practically all pets we…[Read more]

Hi all,
I’m new here and I don’t have bunnies… YET! I would love to, though. I’ve been doing research, and every resource I’ve found tells me that rabbits and young kids don’t mix well. I have three young children (all under seven), so on the face of it it would seem that we should wait at least a few years for rabbits. However, I’d really like…[Read more]

Thank you so much, Em! You said what I wanted to say, fully, exactly, completely. What can I say, you read me like a book!
It is so true in every sentence and every word. Usually I will tell people that I experienced this, I feel that. But no matter how much I say it, I’m sure that they won’t be able to understand or sympathize. But wow! After…[Read more]

Sorry if I missed you say it, but have they had x-rays or any other scans of their head to check their nasal cavity/teeth?
I ask because my bun was misdiagnosed as having allergies. Then they suspected URI. She would have chronic sneezing episodes but unlike yours had a fair bit of discharge. Culture swab yielded nothing significant. Turns out…[Read more]

He does look like a chinchilla, never really did think about it. I always said his pattern reminded me of the moon or a storm cloud

I’m sorry for your loss. I think everyone feels some level of guilt after losing a pet. It’s normal. But as Bam said, feeling guilt doesn’t automatically translate to guilty. You feel guilty because you loved your bunny very much. I agree that there may have been more going on besides her simply starving to death. As Bam said, there could have been…[Read more]

Yes, bunnies can go through an awkward stage as they reach adulthood. They can look a bit lanky after reaching their adult size and have not filled in yet.

I’ve seen this in older bunnies before. It just seems to be dry/flaky skin. Perhaps it is just a symptom of old age?

I agree with Bam. Considering they are missing part of their noses, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume they have lost part of the natural defense the mucosa. It’s possible they both inhaled something while digging in the dirt.

Sometimes these things just happen and there really isn’t anything we could have done differently… even though we often think that we could have. It’s human nature, after all. But some bunnies are just susceptible to certain types of infections and no matter how we try to treat it, they eventually lose the battle. Sometimes it is relatively…[Read more]
