Thank you for the tips! I always reinforce good behavior with a treat, and I will try being a little more firm and confident when picking him up so he feels more stable and learns not to squirm or jump out of my arms. I’ve only had him for a month, and I’m sure he will warm up to the idea of being held.

Yes for sure @dananm! My bun’s previous foster mom complained he was wasn’t litter trained and kept peeing out of the box, and when I saw it it was SO small. When I gave him a new big box, he uses it without fail.

We might have to take him to the vet if he absolutely cannot tolerate it, but for now, we are going to try to get him more used to us and nail clipping because we’ve only had him for a month. I had my mom hold him and he was fine, but the minute I held his paw he started scrambling out of her arms. Maybe when he warms up to us he can tolerate it…[Read more]

I’ve been letting him free roam around my room all day for the past three days, and putting him in his xpen at night, and he has been an angel! He has only been chewing on his chew toys, and a tiny bit at the curtains. My mom doesn’t want him to free roam all day and night, especially when I start returning to school, but so far he has been great!

The vet examined her teeth more closely than she did the other day and noticed the bottom teeth (in the back, not the front teeth, which are fine) were misaligned. She said that could be what was causing Hunny’s pain. She ground those teeth down but said if the problem persists, it could be something that cannot be detected with the naked eye. She…[Read more]

I always use a helper, and use a method similar to what Wick described for Fable, or the holds demonstrated in that video, but with a helper doing the actual trimming.
There are lots of members who don’t want to deal with it and take their buns to the vets for trims, so that’s an option too if all else fails.

I too am a little confused about your set up. If she is in her cage all the time she will be very unhappy, and will likely see no need to have good litter box habits since she will think of her whole cage as her box. Rabbits need a minimum of 12 sq feet as their cage/hutch/home base, plus at least 4 hours of exercise daily in a space of 50 sq…[Read more]

Glad she’s home! So did they not trim her molars? Sorry I’m confused! Did they send you home with a pain med?
CC every half hour is a lot! I’ve always done every 3-4 hours? Just keep up the supportive care, I have a hunch she is through the worst of it. And keep offering her favorite greens. 🙂

UPDATE: Hunny is back from the vet. She had her lower teeth ground down because they were misaligned. My sweet girl has spent much of her time since she got home resting. We have to get her Critical Care every half-hour; she hates the process of taking it. Hunny was given a strong dose of pain meds before she left; I’m nervous for when it wears… -

Honestly, the biggest thing in this transition is to not worry too much. Make sure you watch to see what he would chew if you left him out for longer lengths of time but you really just need to try and trust him. Try to get everything off the floor you can and then cover the remaining baseboards and furniture legs with wood, NIC grids, or what I…[Read more]

Sorry! I was not informed but I will not do it again, thank you! But I just wanted to say that I love my bunnies and they are my children so I of course will not be doing anything for fun or meat. I just don’t want to keep them separated for so long. Thank you for all the help!

I am still struggling to find what works best for me & Dorian, last month I got his front paws no problem. He did look disgusted at me the whole time and made it known it was not his idea of fun. But he didn’t fight it. This month… well I have gotten 1 nail so far. He squeaked, wiggled, twisted wildly and basically made me realize never to…[Read more]

I don’t think it’s something that should be forced very frequently, but there is utility and some well-being factors that come from feeling confident that when you do need to carry/hold your rabbit, he/she is somewhat tolerant of it and it’s not dangerous to either party.
I would not necessarily go out of your way several times a day to force a…[Read more]
