I know there have been members on the forum in the past where their bunny had a broken leg. These bunnies received a cast/splint and were kept in a confined area. I don’t recall any of the cases being a femur though. Being so high up on the leg, I think it would be hard to set it correctly. This may be why the vet suggested surgery.

Young rabbits that are still growing can be free fed. They can have as many pellets as they want as long as they still eat plenty of hay. Most brands carry a young/junior formula, which is typically alfalfa-based.

She’s so young. Broken bones tend to heal quickly in young rabbits. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how well a splint would work on the femur. Did you talk to the vet about trying to support the bone externally?

Well if the vet can’t get the critical care into her anyway then there really isn’t much point in keeping her there. I think you’re right, the stress of being in a strange place with strange people could be hindering her progress. How old is your rabbit? Rabbits dont have heat cycles like dogs do, they are what is known as induced ovulation. That means some form of outward stimuli can trigger ovulation. It’s very often unclear what sets this off if there are no other rabbits in the vicinity.
