Wick & Fable replied to the topic Sherwood: Timothy or Timothy/alfalfa in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 4 months ago
It is very common for rabbits to favor anything with alfalfa over something purely timothy. Alfalfa is much more nutrient dense, which is why primarily alfalfa-based pellets is recommended for growing rabbits (8wo to 4-6mo). Eventually, all rabbits need to go through the tough time of getting off their beloved alfalfa-based diet and switch to…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Normal Breathing Rate? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 4 months ago
I had this concern up until pretty recently actually. I have two rabbits, one being a Netherland Dwarf (<3lbs) and the other is an American Sable (5-6lbs). I had my ND first, and he is a very slow breather. When I adopted my AS, I was concerned about her breathing. It was audible and super fast, even when she was laying down; however, over time…[Read more]

… also, don’t be too shocked if he begins chewing the xpen bars, even though it’s open. Rabbits can be weird like that, haha.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Free Roaming Yay! in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 4 months ago
That’s great to hear! I would agree that keeping the xpen and set-up up is a good idea if there’s room. Sometimes you need a quick place to safely secure the rabbit for some reason.
I’m sorry to hear that the bar chewing was still going on. Did you end up trying the putting something against the outerwalls of the pen to try and dissuade it?

Wick & Fable replied to the topic anybody got any good bunny names in the forum THE LOUNGE 6 years, 4 months ago
… I am a fan of cute food names.. specifically breads/bakery items haha. This stems from the infamous “bunny loaf” position, haha. Mochi, Cupcake, Biscuit…. perhaps I’m just hungry, haha.
Also, just an FYI that rabbits are notoriously difficult to sex when they’re young, even if it is an experienced rabbit owner, volunteer, rescuer, etc.. If…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic broken nail š in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 4 months ago
This can happen occasionally and while it can be stressful and difficult, you are experiencing what happens when those nails get too long. It is great that you were able to clip off a litte– even that it very helpful! In terms of how far to go, you can go as far until you reach the quick, which is where the blood in the nail is. In non-black/dark…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic What Are The Best Pellets In The Uk For Baby/Adult Netherland Dwarfs in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 4 months ago
It’s great that you’re seeking out answers prior to committing to a rabbit. IĀ highly recommend going through each of our site’s RABBIT INFO sections. It can be a lot of information, but it is information rabbit owners need to know. In addition to what pellets works best for you, your budget, and location, you will also need to decide on hay and…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Should I move my rabbits into the same cage? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 6 years, 4 months ago
You can find some neat ideas for cube cages here: https://binkybunny.com/bunnyinfo/cubes/ , if you want to brainstorm about that possibility.

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Why is my Medically Healthy Rabbit not Eating or Pooping? in the forum BEHAVIOR 6 years, 4 months ago
I will highlight Dana’s last point: Yes, completely healthy rabbits can experience stasis for reasons the owner may never be able to figure out. The best thing to do is exactly what you’re doing, which is being vigilant in observation and being active in getting your rabbit treatment.

I replied to your post regarding whether they were bonded or now in the bonding section. š
Bonded pairs do live together 24/7. So eventually once you deem them bonded, rather than buying a fancy double stacked cage, I recommend building a cube condo! You get a lot more space for them for a lot less money.

Depending on what part of the gi tract is not functioning, sometimes a combo of motility drugs are needed. Ask about ciscipride, which affects the upper portion of the gi tract. Some bunnies need both reglan and ciscipride.
The keys to treating stasis are: pain management (usually metacam), motility meds, fluids, and syringe feeding. Make sure…[Read more]

Yes to mint tea, can be used to encourage drinking when they are doing poorly.
You can also make hay tea when you have a sick bun, I’m pretty sure hay tea saved Bun Jovi’s life when he went into stasis when the vets were closed about a year ago. Here’s the thread with the…[Read more]

I’m very sorry this happened to you and your bun. Iremember one case here with an elderly bun who broke her femur. They were about to have it pinned, but the bone started healing on it’s own, so they never needed the surgery. I cant say what that break looked like, though. For it to heal spontaneously the two pieces were probably correctly…[Read more]

They get along fine, they aren’t really affectionate with each other but there are no issues either. š
