Nope, no reactions to it being touched. I guess I’m just a little paranoid due to not really knowing the new vet. 😳 Thank you for your responses!

It’s definitely something I see mine do before they groom the face.  With Dorian, it might be more like a way to shake out the nerves, a bit like that shiver we do often referred to “someone walking over your grave” or the “heebie-jeebies”. So it might sometimes be excited nervous energy when you put food down and/or some flight/fight energy on…[Read more]

Oh, that’s weird. It’s hard to know what it is exactly. It seems too flat to be a papilloma. A “pimple” or clogged hair follicle might explain it. As Jersey said, it’s likely harmless. I’d only be worried if it changes or grows.

It’s worth a shot! I’ll try that next time 🙂

Unfortunately the tail is really the only signal. What I did with my wick is make a really loud hiss sound immediately when I saw it, that way the unpleasant sound is immediately associated with peeing and in my mind it made me feel like it let him know “what u did to cause that hiss sound is why I am now bringing you to the litter box”. Full…[Read more]

If she is willing to eat a strawberry treat, have you tried giving that to her following critical care time? So maybe treating it like learning. I did that with my Wick. He always got a treat after medication administration. Trying to get a connection to a “reward” might make her more willing to take it and/or reduce stress during, over repeated…[Read more]

1.) Before this all started, Hunny always got veggies in the morning and at night (two servings a day). We try to do the same with the Critical Care.

2.) Thank you for bringing this to my attention. You’re exactly right. It’s just tough when we have to police Hunny and monitor her every action. What could be normal “I’m not hungry right now, so I…[Read more]

I just wish there was something to relieve my worry. Some sign that things were getting better and that I was making a difference. At the end of the day, the best comfort my family can give is “We’re giving her the best care we can, and that’s all we can do.” It’s not exactly comforting when I feel like there’s more I should be doing. That said,…[Read more]

I hope she is managing okay.

Do you have a veterinary teaching hospital near you?  You might want to enquire about surgery there as it can sometimes be more affordable. The woman I adopted a rabbit from told me they did this with their 1st rabbit. It came into a clinic as a baby with a broken leg. The clinic was going to euthanise it but this…[Read more]

It’s frustrating because you’re making what I think are very good suggestions, but my family always resists trying them. They want to strictly follow the specialist’s care plan, and take it from there. I worry that’s not enough, and an argument ensues, adding to Hunny’s stress and mine. When I mention the baby food, my family says “Hunny has to…[Read more]

Happy to read you’ve seen such an improvement. That was a really good indicator for you that pain was present.

As he has a history of dental treatment, I do agree with you that this is something to look into by having him examined while sedated. Has he had molar spurs develop in the past? Rabbits will sometimes get things snag on these and be…[Read more]

It’s tough. I wouldn’t be too concerned about her teeth being filed down, even if unnecessary. They will grow back, just like human finger nails. If her jaw is aligned, nothing should prevent them from growing in a weird, warped way. If you think about it, the only thing that can change the direction a tooth grows is moving the tooth itself…[Read more]

I’ve not used it but it is in the same family of meds that baytril  (enrofloxacin) is in and that is widely used for rabbits.

If you don’t see an improvement after the course of antibiotics, I do think it would be worth testing a different litter. It couldn’t hurt to test the theory. Some can be more sensitive to the wood based one, even when…[Read more]

About the chewing, it could just be that her teeth are still sore, or there might be some sores in her mouth from before her teeth got trimmed, but I guess the vet would have checked to make sure there were no cuts/injuries inside her mouth. I’m not sure why the specialist says that she didn’t need a trim, since they didn’t see what her teeth…[Read more]

I would stick with Gerber baby food, I’ve tried Beech-Nut from Walmart before but it’s not pureed as finely as the Gerber so it’s harder to get in and out of the syringe (although if she really likes it she might just eat it without a syringe). Fruit will probably be the most enticing to her, apple or banana is well liked by most rabbits, but you…[Read more]

That’s so frustrating about your experiences with the vets. I’ve heard from more than one person about similar experiences with vets during this covid crisis.

Getting even 10 ml of CC in her is good, so just keep at it. Hazel’s suggestion about baby food is a good one, canned unsweetened pumpkin is also good to try. Some bunnies really love…[Read more]

I can see some paper litter  or bedding in the background, do you use any wood based products also?   Sometimes that can irritate the eyes, depending i what it is.  Is this area in the corner of the eye staying dry now?  Holding a warm, wet cloth over the eye can sometimes help clear the drainage duct.

Years ago, had a rabbit whose had tear…[Read more]
