My Dutch rabbit, Nora, literally always has a wet or dirty bottom. She isn’t ill and she isn’t over weight at all. She has normal poops and cleans herself regularly and I even trim the fur on her butt once a week but it’s still ALWAYS messy and we both hate butt baths so I’d love some tips on how to fix or at least deal with this! She loves t…[Read more]

Thanks for all of your replies. I don’t think they are abscesses as only one has ever had any liquid come out. I also don’t think they follow the mammary glands. She has one almost on her front leg. I will check that website and probably schedule a vet appointment. She has maintained consistently normal behavior though and this has been hap…[Read more]

Congratulatipns on your new bunny!
Is the fur under his feet/heels matted? If it is, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Matted fur under the feet function as “soles” and protect the delicate skin underneath. You dont do anything about matted hair underneath the feet. The golden rule is to never cut the hair under a bun’s feet. They need all.of…[Read more]

tobyluv replied to the topic brush questions in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 4 months ago
Some rabbits prefer certain brushes or combs over others, and it can be trial and error to see which implements work better with certain fur types, so it’s good to have 2 or 3 different kinds. I have a Zoom Groom brush, a Love Glove, a metal comb, and a soft bristle brush with a wooden handle that I’ve had forever and used on various rabbits.

Thank you, Dana. You’re so right. I will try my best to resist the Googling urge and trust the vets. I hope Hunny is able to make a complete recovery like your Moose did.
It’s Critical Care time now. I’ll keep updating as the day progresses with any major observations.

My guess is he was caught with his pants down 😆
How old are they? If they’re still very young I would be worried about the female not being mature enough to go through pregnancy/giving birth. In that case it might be worth considering an emergency spay, if she’s in fact pregnant and not too far along.

Hello, thank you all so much for the advice. The past two days Ive sat with her for hours and made sure she consumed hay and thankfully she’s started eating it on her own again today and seemed to enjoy it…if anything when i offer her some she’ll pick out the toughest strands so I’d think if it was a dental issue it’d be too painful for her to…[Read more]

I just put them together again for the first time today, I’m actually planning on keeping them together for a marathon bonding. The nipping/chasing was a problem I had the last time I tried to bond last year, where I did the shorter sessions. Since earlier today they’ve calmed down a bit on the nipping/circling (I ended up moving onto my screened…[Read more]

Googling rabbit dental abscesses is scary indeed, but I can tell you the my Moose recovered from his very well. His cleared up completely after 1 round of cleaning it out and the course of antibiotics (hence my recommendation to treat it aggressively from the get-go, if that is what it ends up being). When the rabbit is otherwise healthy and you…[Read more]

My Holland Lop is 9 weeks old. I have had him a few days. When I got him his feet were very dirty but I was trying to let him adjust to his new home before I addressed it so I didn’t stress him. Now that he’s letting me get closer to him, I’ve realized his back feet aren’t just dirty, where his hock area has matted fur. I know a bath is not a g…[Read more]

I did some research. I’m thinking more and more some form of dental abscess could be causing my girl’s issues. She always has access to hay, so maybe a piece cut her gum or something. Idk…
I never thought about it till now, but some things to mention:
– Hunny has not done communicative nips since this started. If she wants me to move an arm,…[Read more]

I hope we’re on the right track. I do worry about Hunny losing weight; hopefully, 1/10 of a pound is the worst it gets…
The vet did mention the thing about dwarf rabbits having more dental problems than non-dwarfs. Hunny being a dwarf and lionhead mix could explain why she is having issues our last two bunnies never did…I’m just scared th…[Read more]

Solid plastic is def better than wire, but any hard flat surface can contribute to them as Wick described. The rabbit foot also evolved to have the nails dig into dirt, and be on uneven surfaces, so having sustained pressure on the same part of the foot all the time contributes.
I realize now you have another thread about her peeing on blankets…[Read more]

Overall things sound pretty positive to me, so my first instinct is that they prob just need more time. But, how long and frequent are the sessions so far, and how long have you been working with them since restarting in earnest?
Another thought is to always be sure to end on a good note. So wait till they…[Read more]
