Some rabbits prefer certain brushes or combs over others, and it can be trial and error to see which implements work better with certain fur types, so it’s good to have 2 or 3 different kinds.  I have a Zoom Groom brush, a Love Glove, a metal comb, and a soft bristle brush with a wooden handle that I’ve had forever and used on various rabbits.

How old are they? If they’re still very young I would be worried about the female not being mature enough to go through pregnancy/giving birth. In that case it might be worth considering an emergency spay, if she’s in fact pregnant and not too far along.

Solid plastic is def better than wire, but any hard flat surface can contribute to them as Wick described. The rabbit foot also evolved to have the nails dig into dirt, and be on uneven surfaces, so having sustained pressure on the same part of the foot all the time contributes.

You won’t see nesting behavior until right before she gives birth. Keep an eye out for that since it will be a while yet. It’s good you have separated them.

I agree with Wick. Try switching “cold turkey”. It won’t hurt if your bunny doesn’t eat a lot of hay for a few days. They usually give in once they realize no alfalfa is coming. Is your bunny still growing?
