Wick provided some very good advice. She is absolutely right. Taking things to the extreme just to find answers may not be worth it in the long run because the treatment and outcome will be the same. Sometimes you just have to treat for what it *might* be. I have experienced this with my vet as well. She knows what something probably is based on…[Read more]

Hay racks you buy from the store are usually too small, but people diy their own all the time. I sewed my own hay bag. I know Victoria Raechel and 101 Rabbits have videos on youtube about the hay racks they use. I keep fresh hay in my rabbit’s litter box and I fill up my hay bag when it gets empty.

That’s very interesting! And sounds like good progress! Glad you experimented with the pen size. It is interesting to me how some buns do better with small pens, others with large.
Moose and Bertha always got a little nippy and amped up around meal times too. There’s def some similarities with your two since Moose had his dental issues…[Read more]

A lot of the websites that said to euthanize rabbits with E.C. were animal hospitals, actually. That’s what got me so concerned. I don’t want my family to give up on Hunny before she has a chance to recover.
I also worry about a dental issue apart from malocclusion of the lower incisors, but Hunny’s X-rays and CT scan came back clean. There is…[Read more]

I use a spray bottle with water and vinegar in it. I don’t really measure the ratio, but sort of 50/50. I just refill the bottle whenever it’s low!

Quick update:
They’ve been together 24/7 several days in a row now (only had one day break due to a trip), either in the bathroom pen or in the balcony pen. The current state of affairs is:
- Overnight – Full-sized bathroom pen with 2 litterboxes
- Daytime – Balcony pen with 1 litterbox (anywhere from 2-6hrs, depending on weather and how they…

A really dangerous medical condition, while something we do not wish upon in our rabbits, sometimes can give us comfort, in that it provides us with a relief of “I can now explain all this chaos and have an idea of what to expect in the future.” There’s comfort in certainty, and uncertainty makes us really uncomfortable, especially when it…[Read more]

There are many rabbits on this forum that have had EC and have lived many comfortable years with it. It is certainly manageable. Sites that say to euthanize may have been breeders or other sorts of operations. A mild, barely detectable case of head tilt in pet rabbit is entirely manageable.
However, all of that said, I am still not totally…[Read more]

Lucky! my rabbit only drinks water directly from our water dispenser in the fridge, after it has been left out for a day. He hates any type of tap water, probably the taste.

Does your rabbit recognize the fact that he is supposed to go into the litter box? my rabbit didn’t poop of pee for an entire day when I got him because he didn’t realize he was supposed to go into the box. I just picked him up and placed him in to to help him realize he should actually be sitting in there.

Yes, Panacur was the name, I just couldn’t remember it before.
The vet thought exactly as you guessed, and Hunny is starting Panacur tonight as a preventative measure. I’m just so scared. As a symptom of my OCD, I’m more prone to Googling, and all I’ve found are negative-toned articles saying this is incurable and that the only choice is…[Read more]

Guessing the medication was Panacur? It usually takes about a month of treatment for symptoms to improve with EC.
Hmmmm, well the EC idea is interesting. I’m guessing the vet thought potentially the trouble swallowing etc. could be neurological? Or maybe unrelated? EC tests are very inaccurate, so some vets will just treat for it if there is any…[Read more]

Feeling very scared. Vet just called to say Hunny’s CT came back normal, but she noticed a very, very slight head tilt on Hunny that could mean E. Cuniculi. Hunny is coming home tonight, getting started on a med that starts with a “P” to treat that, if she indeed has it. We should get the results of that test sometime next week. Otherwise, my…[Read more]

I really like natural fiber (jute/seagrass/etc) rugs… they are a bit heavier than bath mats which I found he liked to drag about and also shred (digging and chewing). You can find them pretty reasonably priced in several stores, I think I got my 3×5 one for around $35 Amazon. I also like rag rugs, I thinks that’s what they are called. They…[Read more]
