thats, crazy, rabbits really do have crazy personalities! He usually seems to just eat at random, I haven’t noticed anything different from when I’m home and when I’m not. When I go out I do encounter other people, maybe the new smell on me is strange and new. He was originally getting 1/4 cup pellets per day, and since he’s still growing, I upped…[Read more]

Maybe he’s a bit mad at you for leaving more often! Sounds like a joke, but my first bun would go on a hunger strike every time I left for a longer time than he was used to, and nearly made himself sick a few times because of it. Does he seem to eat more once you’ve been home for a few hours and settle back in?  How much pellets is he getting and…[Read more]

You seem pretty prepared, I’m not sure if you have any, but it’s probably worth picking up some Critical Care. It’s a good way to get nutrients into rabbits who are to stressed out to eat.

I was thinking it might be the hay batch, but all his hay comes from the same 25 lb box I’ve been using for the past 2 months. I plan to reduce his pellets this week to see if there’s a change. Just a few minutes ago I tried giving him a tummy massage and I did hear some gas, so I will probably do another belly rub soon, but I can’t get my hands…[Read more]

I am nervous about them chasing in such a confined space unsupervised (especially if you have learned to tune out chasing etc.), if a fight breaks out they won’t have much space to get away from each other. Can you attach a pen to give a bit more space? Or sleep close enough to keep an eye on them?

The digging could also be a territorial thing,…[Read more]

Dana – Myasthenia gravis is rare in rabbits. It is one of the hypothesized underlying causes of “head-down” syndrome (aka floppy bunny syndrome)… although this was never confirmed. Myasthenia gravis is characterized by extreme muscle weakness (particularly in the front limbs) and difficulty swallowing. EC would be the major differential…[Read more]

Hmmm, the smaller poops do usually mean they are eating less hay. Can you try giving less pellets and see if he eats more hay? It could be that he is getting too many pellets, since you just increased them.

The other thing is to watch out for medical things, like gas, dental, stasis, etc. Also sometimes you end up with a weird batch of hay that…[Read more]

    Hi,
I am new to bunny care, and tomorrow afternoon we will be going up to our cottage which has no people at all as it is pretty private. I have to bring my rabbit, Rex because there will be no one home to take care of him for the weekend and I am not planning on having someone else care for him. I have ‘made’ a rabbit carrier out of an old…[Read more]

Here in the PNW it’s still pretty mild. Things are opening up a little and I’ve been going on hikes and spending time outside. It rains every other day and is sunny the rest. It’s only July but I’m worried about leaving Louie at home when school starts back up, I’m usually gone from 7 am until 3 pm. Even though he sleeps all throughout the day,…[Read more]

My rabbit Louie used to eat a TON of hay and then continued to eat a little less when I upped his amount of pellets, but he still continued to eat a bunch. In the past few days, his hay eating has seemed less and less. He eats barely any hay from his hay bag and litter box, but sometimes eats little piles I put out for him. I have been out of the…[Read more]

What kanin said. Also, you might want to confine him to his cage for a few days if it doesn’t cause him too much stress, just to make sure he doesn’t run/jump around right after surgery.

    Thank you.

i did try puppy pads for a while, but they just dig them, bunch them up and then eat them. I don’t think any friends would have them due to the peeing. The only reason I ever intervene with the chasing is because of the peeing that inevitably follows when he doesn’t let her mount, so it’s a bit of a tricky one.

I will try to get some…[Read more]

    Thank you DanaNM!

The poop is round, really mushy circles. All the poop you can recognize circles, but it is all just mushy.

They are now eating food! And are drinking some water! Yay! 😀

The incisions are doing good.  I’ve been keeping a very close eye on them, but unfortunately, I can’t be there all the time. How can I make these cones…[Read more]

Can you explain what you mean by diarrhea a bit more? True watery diarrhea is a medical emergency, but my suspicion is maybe you are seeing some soft poops or uneaten cecals maybe because of the cones? Have they passed any normal poops?

If they aren’t eating normally, you should syringe feed them (this also helps hydrate them) as Bam says. You…[Read more]

Oh man, that’s so rough!  I’m going to try to dig up some other threads of long term bonds that had issues and see if I can find any similar situations.

I was thinking the medical issue might be triggering her to act up in the bond (sometimes a weird bond issue is the first symptom something is up). But it does sound like you’ve covered all the…[Read more]

Yes, give it time. He may be uncomfortable from the surgery and not want to move to his litter box every time he has to go. Their hormones can also go a bit crazy for a while after being neutered so he may still leave territorial poops around until they die down. I suggest just sweeping them up and putting them in the box to remind him.

    Keep in…[Read more]

My bunny was once nearly perfectly littertrained, he never peed on the carpet, just a few territorial poops every now and then that I assumed would go away after his neuter.

I’ve brought him back from his neuter today, he hasn’t peed on the carpet but he’s pooping piles at a time on the carpet! Should I let it go for today? Will he get better at it?

Oh and I don’t really have a neutral space because they are allowed everywhere in the house. The bathroom is the room they go in least. I put them in the bathtub today (no water). Ethel was shaking. Then I put Gus in there and she immediately humped him whilst shaking 🙄
