I can imagine every 4 hours being better to keep a steady amount of food coming, plus it would probably be helpful when it’s hard to get a large amount of food into the bun at once.

Slightly off topic, but when Thor has had stasis, the vet advised me to feed critical care every 4 hours (which I also believe is what it says on the package). Does anyone have other data on how often to feed critical care during stasis?

Not sure if it is relevant, but here is my experience with vets and stasis: We have a pretty good exotic vet…[Read more]

My girl has weak back legs so I wanted to avoid excess mounting, also coz she’s weak, she’s very timid and friendly. His mounting is definitely hormonal still, there was bunny jizz on my girl and he made a finish “grunt” noise…

Yes I would like advice on next steps please, since there’s no aggression on either side, do I still have to do the…[Read more]

Aww poor bun. Are there construction noises or dogs barking lately? I just notice Dorian gets very jumpy when the construction across the street is going on, just wondering if something like that? Or maybe his hearing is a bit muffled due to the mites and that’s making him feel like you just appeared and that’s scary? Hope he feels better with…[Read more]

What mischief makers! How big is Louie the bunny? His coats so shiny!

Dorian’s been pretty chill the last couple days, I did some bunny proofing over the weekend and he now has his own plants on the deck, so he stops trying to eat mine (mine are also on higher plant stands) and also a bit extra space in the living room. I think just getting to…[Read more]

Timing of non-hay food item feedings can sometimes influence hay eating behavior as well. I think of it like a human child — if children know they’re going to get cake every two hours, they are going to turn their nose up at salads and other healthier foods in-between. Using this to rabbit feeding schedules, it shows the benefit of having as much…[Read more]

3 months old is actually exactly when I would start to suspect hormonal, so that’s my main guess ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have you seen her pee there? Asking because sometimes when there is pee right next to the box, it’s because the bun actually hops in the box, but then hangs their bum off the side and pees outside the box. :p

For the other corner in the room that…[Read more]

I agree that the behavior is likely due to hormones.ย  It can be difficult to fully litter box train a rabbit that isn’t spayed or neutered.ย  She may not entirely use her litter box until she has been spayed and a few weeks have passed for the hormones to abate.

It does sound like she’s eating a good amount, but if she’s left with just the pee’d on hay, you should give her even more. ๐Ÿ™‚ I like to give my buns hay in both their box and in a rack, just to make sure they always have clean hay available. They usually go for what’s in the box first, then for the rack.

In terms of diet, it sounds fine, but you…[Read more]

Those answers sound good to me. ๐Ÿ™‚ You should also ask if they can/will send you home with critical care, and what their instructions are for right before the surgery and the time after.

For reference, they should not ask you to fast her before the surgery, and you might need to syringe feed her a bit afterward if she doesn’t start eating on her…[Read more]

Hi: ย I do 2-4 rabbit spays/neuters per week. ย I have done this surgery for 25 years. ย There is always a risk of unforeseen death with any anesthesia. ย  The last unexpected death was about 18 months or longer, in a rescue bunny neuter.

Hello! Since she’s only 3 months old i wouldn’t think it would be hormonal. Does she poop outside the litter box? It could still be hormonal but I don’t know. The others could probably give better advice!ย

    Hope this maybe helps?

@princedorinthebun yup I made some and it has made a difference. I am not sure exactly how much she’s eating but reflecting on what you said I actually think she’s eating enough! @Trixieandcookies – how much hay does she eat? I think I was told ideally their size in hay times 2, so a pile of hay 2 times your bun… but I could have gotten that a bit wrong! It’s been a bit since the vet told me that. You could try doing things like toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay and I saw Louie bun had a great idea of using old tissue…[Read more]
