My method is clip, treat, clip, treat. I have been picking up Louie’s feet so he grows to tolerate it, and every time he lets me hold his foot or clip a nail calmly, i give him a little treat.

I agree with @DanaNM. Post-op can be a time of tension because of the hormonal fluctuations. What’s most important is they both stay safe and aren’t endangering themselves or each other. A much more secure, permanent bond can then begin to form afterwards 🙂

Poor traumatized drama bun!
Nail clipping is my least favorite task, especially the back feet. I have to tackle Dorian’s here in a bit and he acts like I am killing him… I can’t even do the tap tap with out him squeaking and pulling his paw away as if in pain, when I am nowhere near the quick. Lucky his nails are clear, or I would have no way…[Read more]

What a little scamp that Louie. Have you tried a shower curtain or such for when you aren’t home for your bed? Dorian is has his couch privileges revoked for similar reasons. Bed so far has ben no issue, but he’s only in my room when I can actually supervise. Good luck wit your little little mischief maker, it’s lucky they are so cute 😀

Joey hates having her nails cut more than anything in the world. It is an actual nightmare to cut her nails myself. But since vets are emergency only right now I had to do it.
She’s been pouting in her crinkly tube for hours.

Sorry you are going through a stressful situation. 🙁 You should separate them. There are hormonal fluctuations that occur after castration and they can trigger fighting in pairs. Some pairs are OK to stay together, other’s have to be rebonded once their hormones have settled. Vets (even good ones) don’t often know much about bonding…[Read more]

As sparingly given treats they sound fine to me. The ingredients to avoid using a lot of in homemade treats are sugars (including honey) and fats. You can make homemade oat flour by just grinding rolled oats in a blender.

I’ve tried to grow things inside before (just because) and it never seems to work well. I definitely have a brown thumb. 🙁

Hello!!
I have two female rabbits – Alan & Steve (we thought they were males…).
They seemed to have bonded pretty quickly. Both around 7 months old now.
Had them spayed last week. They are recovering well & had been cuddling and grooming each other the following days after surgery so I thought all was fine. Today I’ve noticed that when Alan g…[Read more] -

I have been making homemade cookies using veggies, fruit, rolled oats and crushed pellets with some loose hay. They always end up more crumbly but Bentley eats it just fine.
After seeing some some ingredient lists from some bunny shops I notice many use oat flour. So I decided to try. I got gluten free oat flour and mixed it with some crushed…[Read more]

Hello everyone! My bunny Trixie has a yellowish tint to the area around her butt. Does anyone know what this could be? It has been like this for a few months now but I’ve become more concerned recently because it looks like the hair on her back is thinning out. Could these two things be connected? She is shedding her coat really bad right now so I…[Read more]

I too have had a bun with a crooked nail. He too came to me as an adult, so I dont know what had happened. Vet thought it had been broken at some point. It grew out in an upwards curl and it was both thicker and more brittle than the other nails, so sometimes it would break between clippings. It never seemed to cause him any trouble.
I’d just…[Read more]

Sometimes bunnies don’t really reacted to the “press press clip” method, particularly if the nail is already deformed from a previous injury. You do the best you can and sometimes accidents happen. You just stop the bleeding and monitor the nail to make sure it doesn’t become infected. Infection in these cases are pretty rare since the blood…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Bonding cat with bunnies in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 6 years, 2 months ago
Bunnies and cats don’t bond the same way bunnies bond with each other, but they usually get along fine. Many times the bunnies are actually the boss of the relationship.
I think the main thing is to just supervise them when they are together to make sure they interact safely. If the cat has a strong prey drive, or the bun is very scared, you…[Read more]
