Just be sure to transition them slowly between their old pellets and their new, usually over about a week works. They should be able to send you home with a baggie of their current food to help with this.

Hi everyone!
I have a 6 or 7 year old, free-roamimg cottontail rabbit. Yesterday he wasn’t coming out of a hiding spot of his and when I did coax him out, I saw he was holding his left ear down and leaning his head slightly to that side. If I touched the ear, he would jump back and go into hiding again like it hurt him.
I checked the ear as much…[Read more]

@moonlightbunny66 I am having trouble linking from Chewy, which is where I buy them, but I am sure if you Google the name you will find them from multiple shops. The blanket is called Simple Solution washable training pad. I get a 2 pack of the XXL on Chewy for $28.66. Two will almost cover our setup, so I use three for extra overlap. Sometimes…[Read more]

Never heard of that brand, so I looked it up. It’s a bit higher in fat and lower in fiber. Otherwise, it seems OK. Your bunnies are larger breeds, so if it were me, I would start by working down to 1/4 a cup and then adjusting from there.

That sounds like a great plan. Typically you go 1/4 cup per 4-5ish pounds of body weight, and because they are larger breeds, 1/2 cup isn’t too bad to start with, but if you reduce it they may be healthier. Because they just got fixed, they also most likely had to be healthy and pass some general health exams first. I think you’re pretty good with…[Read more]

So I’m getting two buns from an animal shelter. They’re getting neutered this week and I can finally take them home the day after if they’re doing well! The animal rescue currently feeds them 1/2 cup pellets per day. They told me they receive donations of bags of pellets from the farm feed store. I looked there to get horse stall pellets and saw t…[Read more]

Moonlightbunny66 replied to the topic Where to find hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
@DanaNM @Louiethebunny I think the animal rescue here mostly relies on donations. I don’t have any rabbit rescues near me either. I could maybe ask about the hay, but I feel like I’ve bugged them enough with my millions of questions about the bunnies I’m adopting lol!
@Bam Good to know about the horse hay. Thank you. It’s all I can see on Kijiji,…[Read more]

@Louiethebunny I am so thrilled for you at how good things are going with them! 🙂 You may very well have an easy bond. I agree with @DanaNM, let Lola settle in for a week, then start pre-bonding. I would do the pre-bonding for a few weeks, then start sessions. Have you heard of the ‘stunt double’ trick? It is in the RABBIT INFO bonding section,…[Read more]

I pick fresh lettuce from my garden, but I store it in an old spring mix container, and to keep the greens fresh, I wash the leaves, then put them in a salad spinner to get the excess water out, and then I line the container with a thin tea towel/cheesecloth type fabric to absorb extra water but keep the greens moist.

I second contacting rescues near you. The woman running the rescue I adopted Lola from also sells hay, $10 US for a large bag, and she sources it from a farm that provides it for horses. Rescues need large quantities for fairly inexpensive, so calling and asking could definitely be helpful.

Thanks for the reply! Awesome, I’ll let her chill out for a week then start cage swaps. The woman we adopted her from has a small rescue, with maybe 20-ish rabbits, and she helps other people with bonding, and she told us that because Lola was so great during the speed date, they should have a pretty awesome bond.
