@Kendall Oh, okay, thank you for clarifying. 🙂 So you have been doing sessions for around two weeks? And pre-bonding for a week? I would say that the reactions toward each other sound normal, for they are just getting used to the other bun. I would just continue doing sessions. Cuddling is good, where there are cuddles there should be gr…[Read more]

@DanaNM Thank you so much! I’m sorry you lost a bun. I’m sure she lived a great life with you. I will ask questions when they go to the vet. 🙂

When do I know they are bonded? I don’t think they are bonded yet because I still haven’t seen Calliope truly groom Theo but is that the only thing I should look for? They do everything else great, they cuddle, share food and a litter box, they can climb on top/over each other, etc. The only thing they don’t do is consistently groom each other,…[Read more]

Others have covered pretty much everything. I will just add that for a brand new bunny owner, it is safer to feed a small amount of pellets, and discuss with your vet if you eventually want to eliminate them.
Pellet free is possible, but you have to make sure to feed a wider variety of veggies, and preferably a variety of grass hays as…[Read more]

Moonlightbunny66 replied to the topic Best way to store hay? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
@prince Dorian the bun Thank you! Good thing there were no mites. The dead lady bugs would creep me out tho. Gotta make sure my buns don’t get that extra snack when I give it to them lol. I can’t find a farm that sells hay near me. I totally forgot I was going to call another farm feed store today to see if they have hay for my next purchase. Goo…[Read more]

it may take a bit to track them down again as looks like I didn’t bookmark anything, there are honestly not that many papers looking at pet rabbits diets (especially free articles), but here is one: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jsap.12660

How big is his cage? Even a large cage is not big enough to spend all day in. Can you try to give him at least 4 hours a day of free-roam in that room? Since you only got him a week ago he is probably still adjusting, but if you leave it open and try not to hover during the times he is most active (morning or evening), I’m guessing he will come…[Read more]

@princedorianthebun Wow you have a good eater! That’s cute that you make the pellets into a game. Thanks for the info. 🙂
@Louiethebunny Yeah I’ll have to wait and see if my buns will eat a lot of veggies and hay. Aw Lola, I hope with time she will grow to like her veggies.

DanaNM replied to the topic Info. about Pre- vs. Probiotics in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago
Interesting! My vets have said something similar about pro-biotics for rabbits. They have essentially said hay is the best probiotic/prebiotic, and that good hay consumption will facilitate the correct assemblage of microbes in the gut. I’m guessing the combo of the hay itself, and whatever trace amounts of dust etc are on it. She did say…[Read more]

@princedorianthebun Thank you!! Yeah I do see things contradicting each other from different websites on how much you should feed the bun. That’s actually interesting on the wild bunnies. I was just saying it because of the disease going around, that the kale in the garden shouldn’t be infected because the disease isn’t in my area. I am going…[Read more]

While inconvenient and risky, could you talk to someone you know who can bring you and her to the vet? If you’re worried about exposure, perhaps ask for friends/family who may be indoors for the past two weeks and are low-risk.
I asked my HRS chapter and there was very much a push for going to the vet ASAP. It is good that you’re noting times and…[Read more]

Thank you very much for the advices!
I’ll cut everything except hay and a little pellets today and see what happens. She loves grass more, but oh well. I was giving her a bit of vegs for 1,5 months already.
she is a bit better today, a little less of that freaky sound, but it is still there. She still is not energetic, as usual. Still a…[Read more]

Louiethebunny replied to the topic Lola and Louie bonding q's in the forum BONDING 6 years, 1 month ago
@Wick: Oh, ok, they aren’t agressive, and haven’t shown any aggression, other than some thumping from Louie which isn’t really aggression, so I’ll allow some interaction, but the minute it turns bad I’ll separate. Their speed date went super well and ended in some cuddling, so hopefully their actual bonding isn’t too long and strenuous.

Thumping seems like a normal reaction to having an unbonded rabbit zoom-ing about! It could be an expression of frustration, fear, etc., but pretty non-threatening so I wouldn’t worry too much. My Fable thumps when I’m too loud while she’s sleeping, haha.
It sounds like you have a good plan going forward with pre-bonding procedures.

I’m in the Seattle Area, but I just adopted a sweet girl for Louie! There’s a group or two on Facebook for rabbits in the PNW you might find helpful for rehoming.

Hi.. its a few days later and I’m having a little trouble, so I wanted to check in here again. Lola seems pretty happy-go-lucky, and Louie not so much. When Lola was binkying and zooming around the rug, Louie thumped at her. Is that normal? I’m assuming that because he’s not used to living with other rabbits, it’s normal to notice some strange…[Read more]

So not an August photo, but just found photos from when I first met Dorian at the shelter and he totally stole my heart. Trying to figure out if he’s grown since then, I mean I could just stick him on the scale but that’s likely to require bribery. I feel his fur has gotten a little darker, but it changes so much depending on lighting I am not sure.
