I would wait another week, you usually want to wait 4-6 weeks post op before bonding, but some prebonding soon should be fine.

Agree with Hazel, if she is who has stolen your heart, then it sounds like you would have a good companion. 🙂 I don’t have any advice to give on tumors, so I will leave that to the more experienced members to help you with. My girls are all 1, for I got them as babies from a friend, but when I met them and spent some time with them, I knew they…[Read more]

He could be bored with it. Or it could be not very tasty lettuce. I know sometimes lettuce can be bitter. Try giving him some parsley since he’s had that before and see if he eats that with no issue.

Hey guys I had just posted about a week ago (template is on that post). Our new bun has been with us a week and settling in great! I even got a couch snuggle lol he hasn’t been great with the litter box and I noticed before my girls hormones settled down she wasn’t great either. I was going to start pre bonding this week but im wondering if I sho…[Read more]

I was actually considering an older rabbit, but Louie just stole our hearts, (we got him at 5 months) and for our second we tried to find a bun similar in age. Adult rabbits are also typically more mellow and like to laze around while young rabbits are crazy and love to run around, so it may also suit your lifestyle more! If you really like I…[Read more]

My bunnies and I share a room in my house, it’s actually a finished daylight basement so it is pretty separate from the house, so there’s never any smell anywhere else in the house. There usually isn’t a smell in my room either, unless its litter changing day, so I just pop open the window. My Louie had smelly pee for a week-ish, but it turned out…[Read more]

Okra is listed on the veggie list: https://binkybunny.com/bunnyinfo/veggie-list/   as a veggie tolerated by most adult buns.

They pee a lot. Pee smell I find can range, depending on how territorial the rabbit is. I also mention this because pee on hay and pee on poop (especially if the poop is pungent due to the territorial “onion” oil coating) also produces smell. My neutered rabbit Wick doesn’t have smelly urine. My spayed rabbit Fable does have smelly urine. How much…[Read more]

That is always a good question to consider before a bunny. 😉

“How often do they pee?”  *dry laugh* oh, they pee quite frequently, but they don’t smell that much. In the room I have their x-pens in, you can sort of smell the pee, but it’s not like it hits you in the face like “Oh *gag* yup *cough* she peed…again!” Standing in the room now, I…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic What kind of hay is this? in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years, 1 month ago

A little bit of clover is fine. My bun loves the flowers 🙂 A bit of a “treat”, like clover, mixed in with the hay can make a bun more interested in eating hay. So yes, this looks like good hay for an adult bun.

Oh yes females are at least as territorial and moody as males, if not moreso.

Sure, you will have less years with her than if you got a baby bunny. But I think there is a lot of satisfaction to be gained from adopting an older pet that would be overlooked by most people. If the tumor indeed hasn’t spread then there will be no ill effects. If you like her, I’d say go for it. 🙂

Can we get a picture of this bun just to confirm your thoughts that it’s domesticated (also because bunnies are cute and I want to see what he looks like)? It’s also very hard to tell a male from a female unless there are visible testicles so it could be a girl. A vet visit is definitely in order as well since your guess on age could be off and if…[Read more]

That’s interesting, would that apply to a female as well, since that would be mainly for medical reasons (to prevent cancer)?

After doing a tremendous amount of research, I am highly considering getting a pet bunny. I know the animal itself does not smell, but I’ve read that the urine can be quite pungent. I am worried about this and my husband is especially wary of bringing in any kind of animal that will stink up the apartment.

Do ya’ll find that your bunny’s urine…[Read more]

Haha I’m jealous of those of you who had rabbits that became hormonal later. Beignet was with Wally (who was already neutered) as a baby and luckily the baby bond lasted but he really pushed it. He became extremely aggressive towards Wally at only 3 months when I had I tended to wait until 5 or 6 months, and as a Polish (so very small) I was…[Read more]

Rabbits are prey animals and domesticated rabbits (i.e. the ones we have as pets) have essentially “bred out” means to survive independently, so I think more so than a pet dog or cat, pet rabbits require more work daily and consistently. For example, a kitten or puppy are lots of work, but they may gain some independence to do “their own thing”…[Read more]

    Hi all.

There’s a rabbit at one of my local rescues that I really like, but she’s 5/6 years old. She’s a Rex rabbit. She was just spayed, and it turned out she had a uterine tumour, but it appears that it hasn’t spread.

Does anyone have any tips/advice on adopting an older rabbit. Is the lifespan of a rex rabbit the same as the overall…[Read more]
