Thanks everyone for your suggestions. 🙂 Starlight’s new favorites are APD timothy gold and binky bunny oat hay. I just use all the other left over hay I bought for litter and it seems to work.

Some buns molt in patches. That is often the case when you see spots of hair loss but no accompanying skin problem. With mites and fungus you see some changes to the skin, such as dandruff, redness, irritation, scabs (can be skin colored, so easier felt than seen).

My bun got sore hocks last winter, when he was poorly with something unrelated. It healed well with cleaning, applying of antibacterial cream and wrapping. My girl bunny, Psyron aged 7 ½ had sore hocks few years ago. It can also form from poor litter box or cage conditions. Turns out they were peeing on top of the hay and then stepping on it. Led to sore hocks in the female and we quickly resolved that.

If they are wart-like growths, then they are probably papillomas. Ears are not an uncommon place for them. If they are indeed papillomas, there isn’t much you can do for them at home. They are actually like a wort.  They start small, grow into a calloused wort, raised above the skin when bigger.  They are not like scales. Ears are clean and smell clean too.

It’s recommended to have the primary living space (where the bun spends most of it’s time) be at least 12 square feet, plus an additional 50 sq feet (minimum) for exercise space at least 4 hours a day. More space for more time is even better.

If it was a tiny shard, even taking to the emergency vet probably won’t do much good since they wouldn’t be able to really find it. On the plus side, rabbits are really good at grinding things down before they swallow them, so there’s a chance it’ll just come out as usual.
