borya01 started the topic At home sanitary shave? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 12 months ago
Hey guys, I have posted a bit about my rabbit. I have one other question about her. Her bum areas has started getting really dirty and matted up. This used to happen to her long back, before she had a grated litter pan. I took her in to the vet for a sanitary shave and it was wonderful afterwards. Unfortunately her bum is back in the same…[Read more]

Did you do some litter training 101 with her before attempting to bond? I’m going to guess it’s a combination of never using a litter box in her 5 years of life, recently being spayed (hormones are still fluctuating), and trying to establish territory. They may be getting along nicely so far, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any marking going…[Read more]

So I’ve recently adopted a 5 year old netherland dwarf (female) to be a companion to my giant chinchilla (male) for the past week I’ve been doing bonding and they’ve really hit it off and already share food and groom and cuddle (both are fixed). The female Renfri was cage bound and aggressive before I adopted her. She’s starting to come out of her…[Read more]

Hmm I will look into the boot trays, but some are rubbery like silicone. Maybe I could get a small door mat, does anyone think that would work? Or still has anyone tried those foam mats/anti fatigue mats?

So I just tried them now, and at first, they were very active. OB and Silver nipped Smokey once or twice, but other than that they were pretty good. Silver and OB are bonded, they are always fine with each other, and chose to flop next to the other bun. Right now, though, they are all flopped together. ( π )
What my issue really is, is that, if…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Attempted trio/quad now two pairs- Myra, Bun Jovi, Bonnie, and Cooper in the forum BONDING 5 years, 12 months ago
Myra perked up by yesterday afternoon and is back to normal thankfully (after two syringe feedings, some tummy rubs, and some pain meds).
Some of my friends at the rescue seemed to think she was prob more stressed by the long bonding session than the car rides, but I’m just not sure about that.
In scheming next steps, I see some options, what do…[Read more]

I believe the foam mats are called chef mats or anti-fatigue mats!

I think it’s best to marathon them in neutral, then move them into semi-neutral, then their final home, all without separating if possible (but not the end of the world if you need to separate!).
Usually the rule of thumb is after 48 hours in neutral with no negative behaviors and plenty of positive (cuddling, relaxing, sharing food and litter…[Read more]

Thank you! π I was seeing earlier if I could make it my profile pic, alas, it was too big…will have to look into framing it though! π Do you think in one week they’ll be ready to do a marathon in one of their x-pens? Should I do it in an x-pen, or should I do it in semi-neutral? OB and Silver did chase Smokey briefly today, so should I wait…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Is it normal after being spayed? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 12 months ago
I wouldn’t worry about the lack of drinking if she’s getting wet veggies and as long as she’s peeing. If she isn’t eating a lot of hay she might not drink as much.
But you really do need to prevent her from jumping or running. Hanging a towel on the side of the pen might help her calm down a bit. And providing some extra boredom buster toys to work on.
