Thank you DanaNM! Yeah, I had a short period where they were both healthy… My poor bunnies.I’m sure they’ll check his teeth again when he goes back to the vet. So we can figure out if it’s the issue. This is the treatment plan they gave me. Is it normal? All these things seem necessary. But wow that’s a big cost. It’s Canadian dollars btw.

Lol how funny! I have tried various sizes right now they are in a 2 by 2 of those wire shelf panels. A week ago I tried a pretty large space 4 by 4, I think, and the circling was a lot worst. I usually just let it play out they have never had any serious fights it’s just this weird little circle thing lol. But right now is the best they have done…[Read more]

Oh and I had another thread called “soy sauce pee”. His pee has been smelling strange recently. Like soy sauce or fishy miso soup. Not sure if it’s related.

It is really bizarre as 95% of the time he is fine then we get an episode every other night and he may yell out.
I am worried about calcium related illness though nothing showed on the X-ray and he only seems to struggle to wee around 9pm then it subsides. It is really bizarre.
He only seems to tolerate parsley and basil but I have come to learn…[Read more]

Thank you, this is helpful!
What happens after the circling? Have you tried pushing past this during the session?
And how large is the space? Sometimes a larger space can help. They might chase a little, but they can actually get away from each other, so it doesn’t just immediately lead to circling.
The nipping could be him thinking about…[Read more]

Finger’s crossed it was a fluke and they are all good from here on out!

Yes, they did move a bit quickly when I bonded them, but they showed all of the signs of being happy together like grooming, sharing food, and cuddling. They seemed like they genuinely enjoyed each other’s company and when they were separated they seemed to really miss each other.
I put them back together in a neutral space and they did really…[Read more]

Thank you both! I’ll speak to the vet and mention these things when I can.
I can’t really tell if he’s showing any signs of discomfort. He’s mostly acting normal. He was hunching a bit recently but looks relaxed today. I can see him grinding his teeth but both the bunnies do this often while they’re relaxing. So I think they’re just content.

Agree with Bam especially about gradual changes being key!

I agree with Dana. Fiber is very important since it helps with the assortment process where some intestinal content is sent to the cecum to become cecotropes, and some to become the round fecal poops. The material that is to become cecotropes is actually sent backwards for a bit in the intestine, which is one of the places where things can get…[Read more]

What did you do to bond them? I guess I was just wondering if things moved a bit too quickly since the bond is very new. Some scuffles can happen, but you really shouldn’t see fur flying in bonded pairs. Before the fight, did they cuddle, groom, share food, share litter box, etc? And just generally seem very happy together?
If you separate them…[Read more]

Once bonded they live together 24/7, but you will probable want to expand their space slowly. Sometimes new bonds can be upset if the territory increases too quickly, especially if it’s not neutral. So maybe you could start with them in the living room (or whatever room their cage is in) and see how they do. If they start chasing or anything, you…[Read more]

Sorry! I filled it out below. Thanks for the reply! I was also wondering should I move their bonding pen where their permanent home would be and then slowly make their bonding pen bigger eventually making that their permanent home? Thanks!

Could he have a crystal or bladder stone that’s partially lodged in his urethra? Would that show up on the x-rays? Poor baby, he sounds like his is in a lot of pain. 🙁

My guess is the spurs are causing some drooling and extra juice dripping, as you suspect. So my first action would be to have his spurs filed and see if that helps.
You are really going through the ringer with these bunnies right away! You are doing a great job with them! Many new owners don’t catch these sorts of problems until they are very…[Read more]

Oh Pinky. Is he showing any signs of discomfort?
This combined with his other poop issues all points to a bit of cecal dysbiosis. He may even have some symptoms of “cow pile syndrome” (also known as the “wet” form of megacolon), but it’s hard to tell and hard to diagnose. Some rabbits just have a cecum that doesn’t function quite normally, so the…[Read more]

She’s doing much better! I was able to get some sub-q fluids from the rescue and she perked up and started eating within 20 min of getting them. Ate almost normally last night and is back to normal today! Fluids for the win! So important to have in your emergency kit!
