This does sound like a case of “cage” aggression. I agree with Dana, this may be a too much too soon situation. I would work on establishing a home base for her.

For sure, tomorrow is his last day of baytril then just the panacur for a few weeks but we shall see how he progresses.
Thank you for the suggestions.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the dark poops. But yes, you can switch to timothy hay if she is getting an alfalfa pellet.

It may be worth having the vet look into it. At the very least, it will help you eliminate possible causes.
In the meantime, I would continue with his medications. It doesn’t hurt to treat for bacteria and EC at the same time.

LBJ10 replied to the topic Holland Lop Bunny Weight (3-4 mo) in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 10 months ago
It’s difficult to go off of weight alone. Some young bunnies will be on the lean side. You may be able to feel their ribs and spine a bit. However, they should not be skeleton-like. How prominent are his ribs and spine?
He’s getting a young bunny formula pellet, which is good. How much are you giving him? At his age, he can have unlimited pellets…[Read more]

I agree with what the others are saying. It sounds like your cat just needs a bit more time. Just because she accepted a bunny before doesn’t mean she is going to instantaneously welcome this newcomer. This doesn’t mean she won’t eventually accept the bunny though.

Yes, I don’t see why it wouldn’t help, but I am definitely not a vet, so there may be a reason.Ā You could also try cutting up his greens into smaller bits, I don’t know if that would help, if he would just put more in his mouth instead, but it may work.

Thanks Dana!
I think we’ll stick with splitting up play time (for now) as you suggested.Ā When we do let the bunny out when the cat is in the room, we’ll be watching very very closely!
And I had not heard of Feliway, but this stuff looks great!Ā We’ll definitely order some if things don’t begin to improve.
Thanks again Hazel and Dana for the a…[Read more]

I second what Dana said about fresh twigs. My buns donāt care for pet store willow, but love willow thatās fresh or that I pick and dry myself.
Iāve been giving my buns a little bit of dried herbs almost everyday, I mix it into their hay of scatter it over their hay mats. They love it and it keeps them busy. I got mine as mixes from a local rabbit rescue.

I would prob wait until your cat isn’t hissing at bun before doing playtime together, and I would carefully supervise since your bun is still so young. I have a cat and bunnies as well, but he does occasionally act predatory towards them so I have always monitored carefully when I get a new bun. My cats behavior seems more dependent on how the…[Read more]

How deep is the water bowl? Sometimes providing a more shallow and wide bowl can help.
It can take bunnies some times to realize hay is food if they’ve never had it. What’s the rest of his diet like? If he’s only eating pellets, he won’t have an appetite for hay, but it’s important not to reduce his pellets too drastically because you don’t want…[Read more]

Thanks Hazel!
I was thinking the same thing about the reason for the hissing.
We haven’t let the bunny out of the cage with the cat in the same room (one exception, when the cat was sleeping).Ā When we are holding our bunny our cat is sometimes interested, but nothing more, and sometimes goes and does her own thing.
I’m a bit worried about…[Read more]

I agree with Hazel, I think some more time will probably fix this since it’s only been 2 days.
You might allow the cat to thoroughly sniff the bun’s litter box (without the bun in it).
There is also a technique used on dogs when they are reactive to other dogs on leash, that you reward the animal when they are calm, even if it is far away from…[Read more]

Hazel replied to the topic Help! Our cat is hissing at our baby bunny! in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 10 months ago
Hissing is mainly a fear response, not necessarily aggression. Your cat is unsure about this new animal in her territory and is telling it to stay away. You’re right, punishing her wouldn’t do any good. If she was attacking/hunting the rabbit, that would be different (although in that case distraction/redirection would be the appropriate response…[Read more]

Is he a good hay eater? Stuffing hay in cardboard tubes etc. can be pretty fun for buns.
How big is his pellet ration?
A lot of store bought chews don’t seem that enticing to buns, but fresh willow and apple twigs seem really popular. I think just when you get them in pet stores they can be very old.
