Bam replied to the topic Is my Timothy Hay Bad? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 9 months ago
Yellow hay doesnt have to be bad. It can mean its dried a few extra days in the field in the sun.
If the hay smells bad, or if you see white or black mold, obviously throw it out. It is however not possible for our noses or eyes to pick up on all potentially harmful fungi and bacteria that hay can contain.
Hay that has dried outside for 5 days…[Read more]

Momma bunny started the topic Introducing a 2 month old Flemie to a 8 month old Flemie in the forum BONDING 5 years, 9 months ago
I have an 8 month old Flemish giant male that was neutered last month. He is so super friendly and loves attention. He goes crazy over the cats too when they are near his enclosure so I thought he would love the companionship of another rabbit. I’m getting a 2 month old female Flemie to bond with him. She is obviously not spayed due to her you…[Read more]

Hey guys! I am a bit concerned about the hay that I just got and wanted to run it by you guys.
We get our hay from the shelter that we adopted our rabbits from initially. We picked up a new bale of Timothy, we think it was a little older than some other grass just because they were really low on Timothy stock. It doesn’t smell off and I haven’t…[Read more]

As requested here are some pics! Tig is our new baby bunny. Zoey is our (usually very sweet) cat, and Scout is our bunny who passed on last month a few weeks shy of her 10th birthday.
Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome. Will keep you posted on our progress with Tig and Zoey.

This does sound like a case of “cage” aggression. I agree with Dana, this may be a too much too soon situation. I would work on establishing a home base for her.

For sure, tomorrow is his last day of baytril then just the panacur for a few weeks but we shall see how he progresses.
Thank you for the suggestions.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the dark poops. But yes, you can switch to timothy hay if she is getting an alfalfa pellet.

It may be worth having the vet look into it. At the very least, it will help you eliminate possible causes.
In the meantime, I would continue with his medications. It doesn’t hurt to treat for bacteria and EC at the same time.

It’s difficult to go off of weight alone. Some young bunnies will be on the lean side. You may be able to feel their ribs and spine a bit. However, they should not be skeleton-like. How prominent are his ribs and spine?
He’s getting a young bunny formula pellet, which is good. How much are you giving him? At his age, he can have unlimited pellets…[Read more]

I agree with what the others are saying. It sounds like your cat just needs a bit more time. Just because she accepted a bunny before doesn’t mean she is going to instantaneously welcome this newcomer. This doesn’t mean she won’t eventually accept the bunny though.

Yes, I don’t see why it wouldn’t help, but I am definitely not a vet, so there may be a reason. You could also try cutting up his greens into smaller bits, I don’t know if that would help, if he would just put more in his mouth instead, but it may work.

Thanks Dana!
I think we’ll stick with splitting up play time (for now) as you suggested. When we do let the bunny out when the cat is in the room, we’ll be watching very very closely!
And I had not heard of Feliway, but this stuff looks great! We’ll definitely order some if things don’t begin to improve.
Thanks again Hazel and Dana for the a…[Read more]

I second what Dana said about fresh twigs. My buns don’t care for pet store willow, but love willow that’s fresh or that I pick and dry myself.
I’ve been giving my buns a little bit of dried herbs almost everyday, I mix it into their hay of scatter it over their hay mats. They love it and it keeps them busy. I got mine as mixes from a local rabbit rescue.
