Today was terrible. He’s hardly wanted any of his CC. When I got home a couple of hours ago there was awful messy poop, totally unformed, all over my room and his butt. I cleaned everything the best I could. His anus is so inflamed. I gave him a dose of meloxicam and he did willingly eat 20ml of his CC. He’s eating some hay right now but only…[Read more]

rexrabbit2023 started the topic When is a sore hock an emergency? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years, 1 month ago
So I caught my rabbit limping about three weeks ago. I took her to the emergency vet and they did x rays and checked her out. The X-rays determined that it was spondylitis. At the time I pointed out her hock, it had a small black speck on it. But they didn’t seem to have much of a problem with it. They did give me antibiotics and some pain m…[Read more]

I got alfalfa hay today and he does like it! I’m mixing small amounts into his regular hay and crossing my fingers that he doesn’t just pick out the alfalfa and leave the other hay.
I hope it’s okay for me to let this out.. I love him so much, and this has also been really hard for me. I don’t mind the extra work of cleaning his cage twice a…[Read more]

Thank you, that is helpful!
With that confirmation that this all started around the time you went from 3 to 2 buns, I do think it’s worth a shot to do some neutral-territory sessions with them. Perhaps take them on a journey to a friend or family members house and spend the weekend with them there?
It’s also possible that this is just YoungBun…[Read more]

Does she spend almost all of her time in her cage? Even “huge” cages sold for rabbits are too small. The cage should be at least 12 sq ft area and long enough that they can take three hops in one direction without turning. Flooring needs to be solid but soft. Memory foam bathmats topped with fleece fabric are very good for sore hocks. Rabbits need…[Read more]

Sorry. Three to two. Approx timeframes below
Oct ’22 – YoungBun joined SickBun and ElderBun and all three lived together
Feb-Mar ’23 – Found open wound on SickBun, healed, found bigger wound, and eventually separated him as he was getting more sick anyways. Separated by low grid that they could easily groom each other through. YoungBun and…[Read more]

How squishy is the yoga mat? Some foam is pretty stiff. I liked Bam’s idea of using memory foam bath mats if possible. As for the sore itself, would one of those sore hock booties work better than a bandage? There are some sellers on Etsy that offer some that are fairly secure.

It is a small open sore on both back feet. Her cage is huge with 2 levels she hasn’t been confident enough to go up the ramp yet though or would her feet cause her to not try it? I put yoga mats on the trays on both levels so its softer on her feet. I figured out after my other one, Bella, had died that the flooring was the problem in her cage. I…[Read more]

Sometimes it takes buns a little while to like new pellets, so hopefully he comes around! I do hope he will like the fresh alfalfa too, I’ve never met a bun that didn’t!

Thank you! I will try that dried CC trick. I also ordered some of the HealthyGut Rabbit Probiotics that @mia mentioned because the reviews say it really helps with soft poops and getting back to a healthy weight. Tomorrow I’ll go to the pet store to check for alfafa hay agin.
I think overnight Ben ate the rest of the alfalfa pellets I gave him. I…[Read more]
