Yes I agree with Hazel. It seems like you got pretty lucky with your first pair in that your male is mellow enough to be unneutered and still get along with your female. But the presence of the new un-altered bun is likely to continue to create some problems. Until she is spayed (and your boy is neutered) you should move her so she’s not right…[Read more]

It’s hard with babies! Do you have plans to get her spayed? That should help a lot.

If she is always peeing in the same spot, she might do better with another litter box in that spot. Or even a puppy pee pad if a box doesn’t make sense in that area (like if it’s in the middle of the room). If the room is large she might not be inclined to go all…[Read more]

    Hi All,

Our bunny Tig, who is 3 months old, does not have the best litter box habits.

We recently purchased a couple X Pens to give Tig some more space to run around when we aren’t able to fully supervise her.  She poops out in our living room all the time (usually all in one or two spots) and has also been peeing in the same spot each time.  W…[Read more]

I agree with the others. You might also look into using NIC cubes to build a pen or condo. They are my person favorite. 🙂 There are a lot of really elaborate ones you can build if you search online, but here is an example of a really simple one: http://www.bunssb.org/bunnies/perfect-cheap-bunny-cage/

Rabbits are very sentive to scents of various kinds. They can detest certain perfumes, and love others. This is why soap of some specific brands are used as deterrents for buns that have a penchant for gnawing on furniture.

Rabbits also readily pick up on scents from other animals on our hands and clothes, not just other buns. We have had several…[Read more]

Nipping is a way of communicating various messages (a shame we can’t understand rabbit language, haha), so nipping isn’t inherently bad. It is unfortunate if your rabbit’s nip is a bit harder, though generally rabbits need some time to learn what a “light” nip is on humans. My rabbits nip me to move, pet them, or give them food.

I would also opt for an Xpen, but a cage is a nice addition to an Xpen, so the rabbit has a “safe haven” where he/she feels more protected. Most cages on the market are too small on their own for an enclosed space to keep a rabbit for a long period of time, so an Xpen is typically more recommended.

It’s only been a day or so. Things are probably still irritated. The dark spots look like scabs and the pink “rash” might be from the clippers. I wouldn’t worry too much yet. It doesn’t look angry or infected. Give it a little time and see how it looks.

Typical rabbit/small animal cages are very small, but if you are looking for a temporary “cage” setup, a dog crate would be a better option because the size is better, however, an xpen would be the best for the bunny long term.

Hi! My rabbit got spayed at 2pm yesterday. This is her incision now. I’m worried bc of the pink spot above the incision. She went back to the vet today around 10am and the vet checked up on her and everything seemed okay. I am still worried though. It is 8pm now and I don’t know if it looks normal. I’ve been closely monitoring her all day and s…[Read more]

Does he do this when you’re in his space? Or just any time he is near you?

It’s good you are getting her in to the vet tomorrow. It does sound like her teeth are bothering her, or possibly early GI stasis. Sometimes molting can cause some tummy trouble.  Can you offer her some pellet mash? Or critical care? If her teeth are hurting her she might eat pellet mash willingly. If she doesn’t, syringe feeding her could help…[Read more]

Thank you for all the help! Luckily he agreed to scheduling an appointment so we’ll get to take her in tomorrow morning. I’m just worried because we just now got her some new spring mix and also some different veggies like mint and cilantro (those were the only available atm) but she just chins all of them and moves away :/ I’m trying to get her t…[Read more]

    Hi

I recently got a bunny from a shelter. I was told that his previous owners did neglect him a lot, and it took a lot of work from the shelter staff to get him used to people. He wasn’t neutered when we got him, so he was very grunty and thumped a lot when we entered his space. After his neutering, his grunting and thumping have reduced…[Read more]

You won’t be able to do any successful bonding until everyone is fixed. That goes for the male too. Make sure to keep them seperate with double barriers so they can’t bite each other through the bars and so your male doesn’t impregnate the baby. They can get pregnant as early as 12 weeks of age.
