Oh, lovely that you got to see a good vet! Fingers so crossed for his continued treatment!

Thanks so much for helping me. To be honest as I was writing my post and looking at my poor wee bunny I just thought this is crazy, you know it’s his teeth, ring the vet and so I am just back from the vet (his 4th visit since summer 2020, 4 different vets have seen him from the same practice). Today I got a lovely vet who has had lots of…[Read more]

I took Louie to a bunny date to meet Lola, and the drive was about 30-45 minutes, but I had been working with him the past couple weeks getting him used to drives and such so he wouldn’t be too stressed on longer drives. In the end it was great and Lola ended up being a match, but I would definitely consider how your bunny reacts to the car and such.

It is def too soon to give her more space, unfortunately. Spaying is so invasive that they really do need the full time to heal.

I agree that blocking her view with some towels or cardboard may help a lot. Spending time with her inside her pen might also help. Cardboard, seagrass mats, and newspaper are all really good for frustrated bunnies to…[Read more]

How long will you be away on your trip?

As long as your husband will take care of his feeding and litter box, etc, I think that would be a lot less stressful on the bun.

I rescued a bun. I work from home and he is with me basically all day because he free roams in our house.

Over the holiday we went to a cabin house about three hours away and he was in the car for about 3.5 hours traveling. He did fine. We stopped once and he sprawled out and ate some hay. I am traveling to be with my mom for her 60th birthday,…[Read more]

I am a fan of bunny dating, but mostly just to make sure the buns don’t hate each other. However, with a long drive like that, Ollie might not really behave normally on the date.

Would the rescue consider allowing you to foster the bun while working on bonding, with the understanding that if it didn’t seem a good match you would want to try a…[Read more]

My rabbits tend to eat more hay when it’s in the litter box as well. I still use a rack over the box in case they trample and pee all over the box hay, but I top up both regularly.

Meadow hay is as a rule a mix of various types of grasses. The composition varies, but pretty much any grass hay is good for rabbits. Unfortunately theres no telling what a bun likes or dislikes until you’ve tried 😬 Alfalfa (lucerne) is a legume hay and best avoided with adult buns,  since its rich in both calcium and protein, but its great for…[Read more]

Im sorry this is happening to you and your bun.

I agree it sounds like a dental issue. It can probably be difficult to find a good rabbit vet in Ireland just now, due to the covid situation.

The most important thing to do now is to keep him warm and to feed him. Pellet mush is good, but Oxbow Critical Care is a lot easier to use for syringe…[Read more]

    Hi everyone,

This is my first time on a forum so forgive me if I’ve done it wrong. I need urgent advice please. I have a beautiful, prescious 7 year old house rabbit who is very ill. Christmas day we first noticed he wasn’t acting like himself, he was sitting hunched over almost rocking as he was breathing. He really went down hill and I realise…[Read more]

Thank you for replying! I tried cutting the stems but they still ignore it. As for wetting the hay, I might not try that as my rabbits like to dig on their hay.

I’m from the Philippines and my only options are alfalfa, timothy, local stargrass hay, and meadow. Is orchard the same as meadow? I’m thinking of trying out meadow, but there’s reall…[Read more]

    Hi everyone,

I have been contemplating adopting another rabbit to bond with my mini lop, Leo. I think Leo could really benefit from having a bonded mate as he has so much love to give and I think it could make him much happier. (Side note: I attempted to bond Leo in the past with my rabbit Ollie (who passed a few months ago), but it never really…[Read more]

It sounds like he enjoys the hay more when presented in the litter box, which, in a way might be more “natural”, like foraging and scavenging for the best hay pieces on a dirt floor. I can also imagine that with a hay feeder, the rabbit might be smelling a particularly good piece of hay, but digs and digs to try and get to it, versus when it’s in…[Read more]

Thankfully this is only temporary, haha! Some rabbits are especially visual when it comes to confinement. For one of my rabbits, clipping a bedsheet/towel to the outside of the pen so he cannot see the other side stops him from his frustration because I suppose he believes the world ends outside the pen walls, rather than there being more. That…[Read more]
