Bam replied to the topic Are adult pellets ok for young rabbits? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
The difference between junior pellets and adult pellets is mainly that junior pellets contain more protein and calcium than adult pellets. Both protein and calcium are very important for young, growing mammals.
You can however compensate by giving your bun a larger helping of adult pellets. If you refill his bowl when he’s emptied it, he wont…[Read more]

I recently got a young rabbit and I know he should be on alfalfa hay and alfalfa pellets until 6 months old; there’s no issue finding alfalfa hay but in terms of the pellets, for some reason almost every pet store I go to, the pellets they offer aren’t in packaging. Like, they would either be in a big tub for you to scoop out or in clear pla…[Read more]

Wenny started the topic What breed is my bunny??? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago
I got Charlie a few weeks ago and she was labeled as a “dwarf” rabbit, but that kinda means nothing lol. Judging from his ears, they don’t really resemble the telltale ones of Netherland dwarfs, so I was wondering what breed he could possibly be? I’m theorising that he’s a mini rex, but I’m not sure. What do you guys think?

Bam replied to the topic Critical care feeding in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
You are very welcome to ask many questions! 🙂
The difference between fresh vegetables and CC is that fresh veg is low in calories and protein and also comparatively low in fiber. Its absolutely great that he eats a lot of veg by himself, but it may not be enough to sustain his caloric needs. This means he could lose weight, which would be…[Read more]

I’m back again with another question if that’s ok! Herman is eating a reasonable amount of greens – celery, fennel, parsley and mâche (I think that’s lambs quarters in English?) and nibbles on hay. I don’t feel like it’s enough but he absolutely hates CC! I’ve 2 different flavours the aniseed one and the fine ground fruit one and he hates them b…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Is this normal poop? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago
Both these poops are normal and good. The shape is very good and doesnt indicate any gut slowdown. If the bunny gut slows down, you tend to see misshapen poop and poop stuck together.
Darker poop can for example occur if the bun has been eating a bit extra fresh greens, because fresh greens contain a lot of moisture. Any change in diet will…[Read more]

Luvmybun started the topic Is this normal poop? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 7 months ago

I’ve had my rabbit for about 3 months now. She is a free roamer and has unlimited hay and gets fed veggies twice a day. Normally her poop looks like the poop on the left but upon checking her litter box this morning I noticed pellets on the right. They are a tad smaller and darker. Should I be worried? She is still eating and drinking water.

Thanks for the suggestions.
It’s a basic Midwest 36” high pen with door. There nothing blocking her view at all where we’ve placed it, so she can see us quite well. Blocking her view is a good idea and makes sense. I have plenty of cardboard she can shred up too. She did better this afternoon, but that’s when she normally takes a very long nap.

DanaNM I’ll look at some videos! Thanks. 😀 I’m sure I could get plenty of fur off my cats too lol! And yes this is why I shared it with fellow bunny people! Safe space. 💜
