That looks like a fairly standard lower-quality young rabbit pellet. You definitely don’t need to supplement more alfalfa pellets. My only concern is that they are slightly lower in fiber than some of the recommendations. Are they good at eating their hay? They should be getting unlimited grass hay in addition to the alfalfa pellets to encourage…[Read more]

It can definitely be overwhelming when beginning bonding, but it sounds like you are off to a great start!

I would probably pre-bond (do side swaps) for at least a week or two. The fact that they are ignoring each other for the most part is a great sign, and having lived side by side for a month already is great too. Then you would continue side…[Read more]

I think it could work, depending on the rabbits. It used to be more common for females to be unspayed. It certainly makes things easier and more likely to work, but there are cases where it works out, especially when the female is old enough. If the male was calm around other bunnies and she was as well, then it could be successful. Would the…[Read more]

Is his eating back to normal now? If it is, this change in behaviour is probably because he’s afraid you’ll grab him again.

If he isn’t eating like normal yet, I’d suspect some form of pain.

    Hi!

I adopted a bun named Butters a year ago. We rescued her and she was estimated to be about 8 years old, not spayed. We adore her and want the best for her. I’ve researched for so many hours the differing opinions of rabbits needing to be bonded, but also needing to be fixed in order to be bonded. Obviously, with her age, Butters can’t be spa…[Read more]

I have two buns – Alfredo (4 years, male – little skittish and likes to mount other buns) and Theo (7 months, male – affectionate but no experience with other buns) – and I’m thinking about starting their bonding process soon! I feel like I’ve read SO many articles about bonding, and my head is spinning from all the different ways and conflicting…[Read more]

It’s only been a few days, so I agree with the others. Give him time to realize that you’re not going to grab him and force feed him. I’m sure he’s still wary.

Thank you all 🙂 Yes, I have an x pen with hardware cloth zip-tied onto it between them so they are unable to get to each other at all. It has only been one day of them seeing one another, but my current bun has been binkying around every time our new pal comes close to the x pen. Also, she lays down with her body right next to the x pen. He has…[Read more]

That behavior sounds very normal, and no outright aggression through the fence is great. Just be sure they can’t nip noses! That can build some bad feelings between them.

Bunnies can be extra smelly during bonding! They have scent glands which I think they expose in addition to leaving territorial poops. I just adopted a new bun and during…[Read more]

I don’t think it will be too lasting of a change, but he could still be in some pain from his dental work.

I would do as Moonlight suggested and not hover too much. I’m sure once he realizes he isn’t going to be prodded or syringe fed he will go back to normal.

Can you post the ingredients of the junior pellets? Young rabbits don’t need their pellets to be 100% alfalfa, they just need some alfalfa in their diet, either in the form of pellets or hay. Young rabbit pellets usually have alfalfa in them, so the food they were on before is probably fine.

It’s also very important to make any changes to the…[Read more]

Maybe you can try letting him come to you for a while and not trying to touch him? Kind of like starting your bond again. My bunny Muffin has chin issues and would HATE getting cream put on it, he’d freak out and run away. After a while of stopping the cream, he would still think I’m trying to put it on him sometimes and he’d freak out again…[Read more]
