I definitely agree with considering EC. If your vet doesn’t take you seriously, it’s time to find a new vet.
I’m surprised they wouldn’t want to do an x-ray given the symptoms. 0.25 mL per day seems like a very small dose, even for a small rabbit (assuming the normal concentration that vets give). Many vets do under-dose meloxicam so I would also…[Read more]

It could be bc of pain, esp if pain makes her move around less than normal.
Some buns benefit from getting Pepcid (famotidine) together with the Meloxicam, Pepcid protects the stomach lining and some buns have a sensitive stomach. You could ask your vet about that too. Pepcid (famotidine) is an otc medicine that’s not pricey.

Thank you for your reply. I was wondering about E. cuniculi. I will definitely mention this when I talk to the vet today. I’m not sure what the dosage is on the Metacam. She’s getting 0.25ml a day, but not sure of the strength off the top of my head. I’ll look when I get home. Do you think the small poops are because of pain? She seems to be…[Read more]

Did your vet considered E cuniculi? It often manifests as hind end weakness. EC is a microscopic parasite that can attack and damage nervous tissue. Treatment consists of 28 days of Panacur (fenbendazole) Antiinflammatory meds is (as a rule) part of the treatment, but it’s not the mainly component.
Another alternative is arthrosis, i e age…[Read more]

Hi, I have a 5 year lionhead bunny who started having hind end weakness about 2 weeks ago. The vet put her on an anti inflammatory. She has been on it for about 1 week and I’m not noticing any improvement. It almost seems like it’s worse instead of better. She is eating and drinking fine but her poops also seem smaller. I’m waiting on a call back…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Hay in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years ago
I give and have given my buns local hay for a very long time. I only give pet store hay when I cant get local farm hay. It’s horse hay, a mix of grasses, mainly timothy but not all timothy. The only observandum with horse hay is that it sometimes contains quite a bit of alfalfa. Alfalfa is good for horses but too rich in protein and calcium for…[Read more]

Dandelions1234 started the topic Kidney stone in one kidney – advice in the forum DIET & CARE 2 years ago
Hello everybun! We are so confused at the moment. We have been in and out of the vets with one of our bunnies Earl Grey over the last few weeks. After some bloods, which came back completely normal, and a x-ray, our vet says she sees a kidney stone in one of his kidneys. One vet says to leave the kidney with the stone in there, and to keep our…[Read more]

Hi, I’m new to this page found it whilst looking at things similar to my rabbit who passed away yesterday and looking for support because I’m absolutely heartbroken. I got 2 rabbits nearly 2 years brothers and not much was known about them from the previous owners just that they were around 9 months old and the vets told me they were netherland…[Read more]

Ashlee replied to the topic Rabbit hurt left leg and dragging it in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 2 years ago
Thank you! Yes he seems to be quite sleepy and a little more uncoordinated on it. However, he did start eating some more hay a few times this afternoon and began drinking on his own! I am still giving him critical care every 6 hours and massaging his belly. But it seems like his appetite is coming back which is great. Now it’s just the leg. I…[Read more]
